FEATURED CREW MEMBER – Marie Nicole Heiderscheit

This is the final week of our 2017 application process for the Canvas Corp Brands Crew.  If you are new to our blog, the Crew and Canvas Corp Brands, one of the things we love to do is interview our Crew Members and share a bit about each one of them, what makes them create, what inspires them and how they got started.  Our Crew is the most diverse design team in the creative industry and we love it that way.  We have amazing mixed media artists, creative photographers, artists, paper crafters, journal makers, memory keepers, etc.  One of the newest trends we see in the creative world is Creative DIY.  We define Creative DIY as anything creative that you feature in your home, for a party, with food, for the holidays and for gifts.  What makes this different from general crafts?  Well it brings together more than one creative area and it is still done by hand.
Featured today on the blog is Crew Member Marie Heiderscheit (Marie Nicole).  Marie loves crafts of all types and she creates them with her simple, stylish look.  Marie Nicole also embraces Creative DIY, creating crafty items for her home, for parties and for holidays and we love to see what she creates.
oklahoma city

Oklahoma City is on the old Route 66 that once took folks from East to West on small back roads and through littles cities and towns.

Where do you reside?…. I currently live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but my heart is still back in Spring Green, Wisconsin where I grew up. I was your typical Wisconsin dairy farmer’s daughter – I milked cows, fed calves, and unloaded hay in the hot summer heat! The one thing I really miss (other than my family, of course!) is the bright fall colors on our rolling hillsides!

Describe your design style….
It’s hard to define my style because as I learn more techniques my interests are ever changing and my style changes along with it!  Sometimes I do vintage, sometimes bright and modern, but I always seem to have more of a simple, clean look.
Who or what do you give credit to inspiring your creativity?…. Growing up in the country I had so many opportunities to learn and explore. My parents were both creative in their own way.  My father is a very hard worker and would often “create” a quick fix for some piece of machinery that would break down. He was also usually doing some kind of construction project in the home or on the farm. My mother home-schooled her four kids for parts of our childhoods and she also was very involved in children’s programs at our church, so she was always coming up with a lesson or a craft project for us to do. I think it just shows that creativity can be found in many different outlets, not necessarily just in fancy art museums!
We ask each Crew member to create a mini canvas to show off their personal creative style.  Marie Nicole’s is has a clean simple look, but she found a way to incorporate her style with just the right amount of details.

What inspires you most today?…. I’d have to say my faith, my family, and nature. My faith is at the core of who I am, and everything I do stems from it. Next to that, my family is the most important part of my life! I love creating and crafting, but I would much rather be spending quality time with those I love. Being outdoors is always a stress reducer for me, and even just taking a walk with my son, I can find beauty in the smallest details that were put there by the ultimate and the original Creator.
What is your favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product? and why?…. It’s so hard to pick just one! I’d have to say I love their burlap and fabrics. The smell of the burlap itself just brings me back to my childhood days on the farm. It’s so versatile and can be used in home decor or on paper crafts!
What is your favorite project you have created using CCB Product?…

Why is it your favorite?….  My favorite project that I have done for CCB has to be this little shadowbox that I created for my husband on Father’s Day. The photo is our son in front the the airplane we flew in for his very first flight! My husband is a pilot and he hopes to pass on his love of aviation to our son.
Do you teach and if so tell us a bit about what you teach, where you go and some of your favorite places?….  I have not taught and I have never even taking a crafting class! I would love to, though!
I am the happiest doing….. I am the happiest just spending time with family. If we can get outside and enjoy a beautiful day it makes it just that much better!
My favorite place to be creative….. I love my little craft area that I set up in our laundry room, but I honestly don’t like to hang around in there for too long! When I am working on a project it’s my favorite place to be, but I like to be on the go and form ideas for projects before I head into my area to work. If I am stuck on something I’m working on I have found that the best thing to do is leave it and go about my day. The next time I come back to it I can usually finish it and be satisfied. It’s times that I “force” myself to be creative that I end up hating what I created!
Ideas for small creative spaces with a video
When we think about being creative we often think it has to be done in a studio, dining room table or at an easel.  Marie Nicole uses her entire home as a studio, creating things for many different places in her home.  For the first this the Crew did a home tour that Marie Nicole coordinated for the Crew.  The crew love to come up with ideas for exchanges, contests and now creative home tours, so much fun to see what they will come up with next.  If you are Halloween decorations have come down and your are looking for some creative Fall ideas, this tour includes a nice combination and a perfect transition from Halloween to Fall and Thanksgiving – here is a ink to the CCB Fall and Halloween Home Tour.
Fall or Halloween candy and popcorn buffet. Perfect for a fall gathering or party! Just add a few Canvas Corp items to bring it all together!

Tell us one cool detail about your studio or craft space…  We move every few years due to my husband’s job, so my craft room is always temporary! Right now I have it set up in my laundry room. When we move again, who knows where it will be! I don’t have a photo of it, but I do have a video tour of my craft room that you can find here:

Tell us one thing fun about you we might not know…  My love of Ramen noodles didn’t end with college. I keep a few packs of them in my pantry at all times for when I get a craving. There’s just something about those waxy noodles and fake chicken flavoring that is so bad and yet so good!
Share with us anything about your creative life that you feel would inspire others….  Creativity comes in many forms. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t feel you can “art” the same way as you see others. If human creativity was limited to just paints and papers it wouldn’t be true creativity. Creativity has no limits!

I am so happy to have connected with a fellow cheesehead through Canvas Corp. I love the way Marie creates and seeing pictures of her little son.
