We head over to Tennessee to meet our next Canvas Corp Brands Crew Member, Tonya Trantham. Tonya’s works are filled with vibrant color just like the state she resides. Tennessee is centrally located among the southern states with beautiful mountains to the east and the home of country music, Nashville to the west. Home of country music Tennessee is rooted in culture, beauty and history.
Living in the south has a lot of advantages, convertibles, lots of sunshine, beautiful flowers, southern accents and great people. Here is a bit more about Tonya and her fun, crafty self.
Describe your design style…. Quirky vintage
Who or what do you give credit to inspiring your creativity? Anything and everything! Pinterest, Etsy, Flickr, YouTube, magazines, blogs, Joss and Main. Yep, if there is an idea board that can be set up for the site, I have it. ( Joss and Main…I have furniture, accent pieces, rugs, curtains, etc. pinned since I am in the middle of a remodel).
What inspires you most today? Digital images that I have printed off and will be fussy cutting out for some projects I’m working on.
What is your favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product? and why? Just one please!!!! Printed Cardstock because it is the base for all my projects.
What is your favorite project you have created using CCB Products? The fairy in a clock is my favorite because of the Glimmer Mist and cardstock used.
I am the happiest doing…..When I am creating of course, but spending time with my husband or better yet spending time with my husband at the beach. 🙂
Tonya love to create finished pieces that are clever and functional. Tonya is always showing us another great use for Canvas Corp Printed Carstock like this sweet little box – to see the details visit the blog post
Here is another sweet, vintage box Tonya made, I think we see a trend emerging of the types of projects Tonya likes to create.
Along with pretty boxes, this recipe book is another great example of creativity and function at its finest. We love fun ways to save recipes and this is such a great project. For all the details visit Tonya’s blog
My favorite place to be creative…..Is in my new craft room. I never had a craft room until last year. My husband’s long hours made it hard for hime to help me, so my parents, who are very handy, made my craft room become a reality. I pretty much have kept my crafts in a box and worked from the kitchen table or on the couch in the den before my craft room existed. This is a corner of my craft room. The white cabinet started its life as an entertainment center but one of the drawer front was falling off and couldn’t be repaired. Instead of throwing it away, I removed the drawers and the door that covered the smaller shelves, and my dad cut it down to make another shelf where the TV would have been.
The chair is also a rescue from the dumpster. My dad sanded it down and my mom stained it, and for my birthday had it reupholstered in some of my favorite fabric.
We ask each crew member to create a 4×4 canvas that represent them as an artist and designer. Tonya’s 4×4 is layered with amazing vintage goodness, lots of color and reminds us to Be Your Own Kind Of Beautiful
Tell us one thing fun about you we might not know…I have a degree in Commercial Art (before computers) but would like to go back and update my degree. I used to decorate cookies for a living. If we didn’t have the cookie cutter of what the customer wanted, I would research and hand draw the design out on paper, cut out the shape and then use the paper shape as a template to hand cut each cookie out. Yes, it was time consuming but the customer’s reaction was priceless.
Here is another fun mini canvas Tonya created showing how fun it is to work with similar materials, but on a burlap canvas. so much fun.
Share with us anything about your creative life that you feel would inspire others….Sometimes what is in your head doesn’t come out the way you planned it. Enjoy the process – sometimes what you think is a mistake can turn out to great.
