We love the idea of bringing the freshness of the outdoors into our indoor living spaces! Introducing the life and vibrancy of outside into your decor can totally change the feeling of an entire room. Today Dana is going to teach us how to do just that. She has combined the vintage feel of gypsies and the classic designs of Canvas Crop to create this beautiful little tray. The Canvas Corp Watering Can Collection sets the tone for the drawer and she transforms all the pieces and parts with Tattered Angels Paints to create the look she is going for. Tattered Angels Paints are fun to work with as they will paint on just about any surface from canvas and paper to wood and metal, allowing you to create your own fabrics, embellishments and designs.
This is a fun project you can do with the kids this summer. Maybe you have caught a favorite butterfly or photographed some little insects, these can be incorporated into your special little drawer. You can have your photos printed Wallet Size at any one hour photo lab and they will fit just right in this special little drawer.
Hi, I’m Dana Tatar! Bringing the beauty of nature inside is easy with the new The Watering Can collection by Canvas Corp. I use Canvas Corps Printed Fabric and found all the insects and painted them with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist to create a colorful specimen drawer. You can display this piece flat or hang it on the wall.

Step 1: Build a drawer with 3 3×5-inch unfinished wood trays. Attach the wood trays together with hot glue to form the drawer. Stain the drawer with Tattered Angels Iron Chalkboard Mist. Tattered Angels paints are perfect for tinting or staining raw wood, use a little and you can see the grain or a lot for a rich finish. No need for sanding, priming or finishing, just mist onto the wood and let it dry, so simple. With over 300 mists to choose from you can stain wood to the color of your choosing. When you use Glimmer Mist and Chalkboard you get an extra touch of glimmer or choose Simply Sheer and Baseboard Mist for pure color no glimmer. This technique will work on any unfinished wood.
Step 2: Paint the bees, beetles and butterflies on The Watering Can Fabric Panel with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist or Glimmer Glaze. Once Dry, carefully fussy cut the insects from the fabric panel. Note: Prep the portion of fabic to be painted with water. Seal the painted fabric with a coat of Glaze to help keep the fabric from fraying during cutting.
Step 3: I cut a 7 Gypsies Charming Tag Envelope down to size and fit it inside the top section of the drawer. If you don’t have these envelopes you can use an envelope or paper of your choice and then mount the fabric bee on the left side of the section. Fill one large and one small 7 Gypsies Apothecary Bottle with items and glue to the right side of the top section of the drawer.
Step 4: Cut a 7 Gypsies Charming Tag Envelope down to size and fit it inside the middle section of the drawer. Again you can use any paper or envelope in this space. Fill a large 7 Gypsies Apothecary Bottle and glue to the right side of the middle section of the drawer. Mount the painted fabric beetles in the middle section of the drawer. Cut labels for each beetle from a 7 Gypsies Charming Tag Envelope and glue next to each beetle or make your own labels.
.Step 5: Cut a 7 Gypsies Trousseau Tag Envelope down to size and fit it inside the bottom section of the drawer. Cut the red rose from a 7 Gypsies Charming Tag Envelope and glue it to the left side of the bottom section of the drawer. You can also paint roses from the Watering Can Paper to add to this space. Mount the butterfly on top of the flower. Paint a bee from a Watering Can Printed Tag with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and Glimmer Glaze, let dry and cut out. Mount the bee in the right side of the bottom section of the drawer.
Here is an option if don’t have the roses from the Trousseau Collection – In The Garden on Kraft is a great alternative.
Step 6: Screw a metal pull onto the front of the drawer. Insert a specimen label cut from a 7 Gypsies Charming Tag Envelope into the front slot. You can find vintage metal labels at flea markets, look for metal pieces from old furniture.
Now you have a little piece of the outdoors to bring in – Adding life and color to your indoor spaces!
