Hi everyone, Heidi from www.makeyourlifecolourful.com here, today I’m showing you my take on the Canvas Corp Brands May Challenge. The theme for this challenge is “Watercolors“, and of course we’re all using the gorgeous Tattered Angels Mists! I decided to make a fun watercolor card project with matching envelope.
Products from Canvas Corp Brands:
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color: “Black Cherry“
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color: “Pink Coral“
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color: “Kiwi“
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color: “Navy Blue“
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color: “Turquoise Blue“
Tattered Angels Chalkboard Mist in the color: “Medallion“
7gypsies American Vintage 12×12 paper called “Go & See“
7gypsies Wanderlust Collection 12×12 paper called “Pack Your Bags“
step 1
I started my project with a piece of watercolor paper and an envelope. I’m stamping a large background stamp (in my case Simon Says Stamp : “Emma Background“, but you can use any large background stamp that you have with a pretty design) on both the watercolor paper and the envelope, using VersaMark ink and then I heat embossed with Ranger “White“ embossing powder (that’s also the reason you don’t really see much on the photo because it’s white on white). When your background stamp is really detailed then I wouldn’t choose a very textured watercolor paper because the details will get lost Another tip is to use a powder tool to remove static from the paper (I used an EK Succes Powder Tool) before stamping with the VersaMark ink and heat embossing with the white embossing powder.
step 2
Then I’m watercoloring in the complete design on both the watercolor paper and the envelope using Tattered Angels Mists (and water from a jar) and using a small brush. This process takes a while but it’s really fun to do! Since I’m working on a glass craft mat I’m spraying the Mists directly on this glass surface and work from there. I used Glimmer Mists in the colors “Black Cherry“, “Pink Coral”, “Kiwi“, “Navy Blue“ and “Turquoise Blue“ and a Chalkboard Mist in the color “Medallion“. I really love this fun and bright colour combination!
step 3
Then I’m going to work on the other elements for my card: for my sentiment I choose one of the quotes from the 7gypsies American Vintage paper called “Go & See“ that I cut in two and matted on some vellum. For my background layer I choose one of the designs from the 7gypsies Wanderlust paper called “Pack Your Bags“ and I also created an in between layer from vellum to tie everything together.
step 4
Now I’m ready to put my card together: I adhered the two background layers and the watercolored panel together using liquid glue and then adhered these combined panels to a white card base using one millimetre thick foam tape. And to finish my project I adhered the sentiment pieces to the front of the card also using one millimetre thick foam tape. That’s it for today’s fun watercolor project, I wish you a creative day!

This card is gorgeous, along with the matching envelope. I learned something new as well from this tutorial. I had no idea you could use Tattered Angels Mists as watercolours like this. I love these mists. Thanks!
