Halloween and Fall Crafty Home Tour

Every season we love to see how everyone is decorating their homes for the holiday…rustic, vibrant, trendy or shabby chic.  We love seeing them all, as they are filled with so many great ideas.  This year we thought it would be fun to take a peek inside a few of the Crew homes and see what they are up to this Fall and share some of their clever decorating ideas, crafty projects and help us all get into the decorating mode.  Crew Member, Marie Heiderscheit organized the tour and has done a great job pulling this project together.  Take a tour and be inspired to add your personal touch to your Fall and Halloween Decorating this year.  Let’s kick it off with Crew Member, Alison Osborn.  Alison decorates for every season and it is so much fun to see what she comes up with.  No detail is left undone and it wall works so well together.

The Halloween Home of Alison Osborn

“One of my favorite holidays is Halloween, I love decorating, party planning and making my home feel festive and fun,” Alison shares.

halloweenhome_a_osborn1“I love the Heidi Swapp marquee letters, putting masks on pumpkins and giving sticks a Beetlejuice feel.”

halloweenhome_a_osborn2Alison suggests using multiple materials when decorating and a mixture of different supplies for an eclectic found look vs. store bought. For this window she used My Mind’s Eye Party Fans, skull burlap ribbon, black cloth and some faux fall leaves. Use items you have on hand or even old decor and make it new again by adding new touches such as fabric flowers.  Alison did this with her Trick or Treat signs.

halloweenhome_a_osborn3The table of goodies… the spider cups and pumpkin lanterns are from Paper Source, if you have not stopped by they are a great source for little holiday touches and great paper and stationery gift ideas. Alison handmade the pom-pom vampire spiders and bat fans for the centerpiece. Those amazing candelabra’s are from Yankee Candle Co. and yes, they drip red wax when you light them.  Collect goodies along the way and then tie them together with the creative pieces you make so that they colors and styles all work.

halloweenhome_a_osborn4Alison loves making flowers, most of them are fabric, but some she will use other materials like cupcake liners and crepe paper. Adding little handmade pieces makes Alison’s space extra adorable.  She notes,”My Boo-to-You banner was made with Canvas Corp materials, the witches hats I decoupaged, then added Washi tape and paper flowers and the ribbon bats on branches are always a nice touch.”

halloweenhome_a_osborn5Don’t forget your outdoors.  A wreath for the front door..like this SPOOKY wreath with Canvas Corp materials. “I have an antique chair on my front porch that I love changing out for each season,” Alison shares.  Finding objects like old doors, windows and chairs is a great basic to change out each season including a pallet she hand lettered. We love Alison’s idea of Styrofoam eyeballs.  She placed them in bushes and flowers and they are just fantastic and she notes “They are always a big hit.”

Next we get a peek inside the home of Christine Meier, the co-founder of Canvas Corp Brands, along with her husband Randy.  Their home has an European, Industrial look, with rustic elements throughout.  Christine is drawn to natural elements and blends her favorite Fall and Halloween decor pieces, which makes her decor perfect until it is time to decorate for Christmas.  Her everyday home accessories and art are incorporated into the decor, making each decorative element look right at home.  So whether you decorate for Halloween, then Fall and onto Christmas or you choose a transitional approach as Christine has, it is all so fun with ideas everywhere.

Marie Nicole says, “Fall is my favorite time of year, so most of my decorations are for Autumn instead of Halloween. I love that you can decorate once and it will be relevant until you decorate for Christmas! For the Home Tours, I opted to show off my Fall-O-Ween buffet. Perfect for a fall gathering OR a Halloween party!”

Do you remember Marie’s Bistro Sign she made? We love how she changed it up to invite the guests to “Trick or Treat Themselves” to the buffet!

Adding baskets from your stash give a wonderful balance to handmade items you add to your displays and make the presence so much bigger.

If you are feeding a crowd, popcorn is a great way to go! It’s inexpensive, you can make a lot at once, and its so fun to set out toppings and goodies to mix in with it! Marie used our Burlap Saggy Baggies here to fill with chocolate candies, chocolate chips and some trail mix that can be mixed into the popcorn. Guests will love customizing their own “Monster Mash” popcorn mix!

Packaged goodies are a great way for goodie baskets to go, putting them in decorative containers makes them look extra special.

For the candy display, Marie found a variety of glass containers and filled them up with candies. It doesn’t matter if your containers are mis-matched, it just adds to the charm! Check out your local dollar store, they usually have containers that you can pick up and even customize to your needs. Here, Marie glued a tall vase to a candlestick. It’s always pleasing to the eye if you can vary the heights of your containers!

Now that you have all your treats displayed, what will your guests put them in? How about some paper bags! Canvas Corp has a variety of paper bags in different sizes and colors. Here, Marie used our crafts bags decorated with a little bit of washi tape and displayed them in this 7gypsies crate that she also decorated for fall.

After all the essential pieces are in place, go ahead and fill in any empty spaces with some fun decor pieces. We love this fun pumpkin marquee and the little block pumpkins that Marie made by painting scrap pieces of wood and adding some embellishments. Super easy and affordable!
