How to Make A Feather Notebook

Jumping on the journal and planner craze, Ilana shows us inside the blank journal she made for her husband before they departed on a  special trip.  Here is a peek before he began to sketch, add memories and jot things down.  While the blank inside is inviting, the outside is stunning.  We are having fun this month with our challenge which is all about journaling, making agendas, getting organized and making a place to keep those personal thoughts.
August Challenge - Ilana's notebook

Burlap and Feather DIY Notebook

I made this notebook to give as a present to my husband, so he could bring it on a trip we took on July to write and draw about our experiences. I tried to make a masculine notebook.
Materials Used:
Canvas Corp – Black & Kraft Chevron Paper
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Leap Frog, Dragonfly, and Red Chilies
Canvas Corp Fringe – Green and Ivory
glue and green feathers
Gesso
3 shades of green oil pastels (Staedtler)
Tools Used: Scissors; Palette knife
Step 1 – Apply a thick layer of gesso on the front of the notebook
Black and Kraft Chevron Paper

Canvas Corp Paper is 80# cardstock and great for applying gesso and other textured mediums.

Add texture medium in a non-perfect pattern on your paper, letting some of the art show through.

Step 2 – Glue a scrap of the green fringe, and apply a small amount of gesso just to add a different layer / texture

Step 3 – Then, use your Glimmer Mists to add color to the project. I used the spray and also let some drops to fall
You can mist, pull out the mister and add droplets or add with a brush.

Step 4 – Glue another scrap of fringe with a different size and color and add more gesso. Use your heat gun to dry everything.

Step 5 – It is time to glue the feathers

Step 6 – Use your oil pastels to create more texture and color. I used mine to make a frame around the notebook cover. You have to smudge after scratching.

Using different mediums to add color give your projects a unique and one of a kind style.  Try out different combinations and colors to see what you like best.

Add finishing touches of color here and there.

Making a masculine journal or book cover is easy, just choose deeper tone colors – blue, red and green are great choices.  Add textures like burlap and texture medium and simple feathers.  The look is stunning for anyone.

Make your own planner, journal or agenda and submit to win.

Happy Creating!!!
