We just love seeing all the different creative ways that our Mixed Media Origins papers can be used! These papers are a printed cloth-like paper that allows you to alter them any way your heart desires. Not only are they fabulous for scrapbooking, cards, and all things paper crafts, but they have also been used for simple sewing projects and home decor pieces. Crew Member Kyriakos shares with us today how to use our Origins Grace papers to give this lampshade a new look. Start by locating a simple lamp or paint one to match your space then either cover the current lampshade or locate one that fits the lamp.
The wings from the Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins paper is such an inspiration for creative projects. While they are part of a fabulous paper design, they can be cut out and used on their own. In my opinion, “the wings are meant to take you away.”
While I have many ideas for the wings and this paper, this time I have used the wings to decorate a lampshade. Trimming the pieces of the paper and then heavily tattering and distressing them gives the lamp a great look when partially covering the lampshade with the papers.

The paper begins in black and white so you can choose the colors to coordinate with the spaces in your home or make them for a gift to match any color palette. For this project, color shades are limited to highlight the beauty and the special shade the papers already have.
Tools Used: Craft knife; Vinyl glue; Paintbrush
Step 1 – Cut the wings from the Mixed Media Origins Grace paper using a sharp blade.
Step 2 – Tear pieces of the Grace paper horizontally to keep the lining of the letters. Remember not to make the edges too straight, the distressed look is what we are going for here. Tattered Angels Mists are great for distressing. Add black shades with the Coal color mist on the edges of the paper cuttings. You can do this by misting onto a craft mat then dragging the paper through it. You can also add the color to a sponge or brush or even with a rag to get the look you are going for. Another option is to mist the entire page or just your torn pieces with a brown or distress color to make your shade look vintage.
Step 3 – Mark where the wings will be placed and distress the lampshade around that part with the black color.
Step 4 – Start gluing the paper cuttings, avoiding the place where the wings will be set. Use the Vintage Brass to distress parts of the papers and the lampshade.
Step 5 – Color the wings with the Tattered angels mists. I covered them with the Mustard mist and then added details with the other mist colors. Use the Glimmer Glaze for finishing touches at the end. When colors dry, glue the wings on the lampshade.
Step 6 – Decorate further with scattered stamping on the shade.
