Hey everyone! Suzanne Austin here to share a layout that features a very simple watercolor background using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. I will admit, I have a thing for making inks/paints work as watercolor and this layout is no different! It happens to be the easiest way to put color down and jump start any scrapbook or art journal page! I will show you a technique that gives a very realistic watercolor effect!
Materials used:
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Patina
Canvas Corp 12×12 Canvas Fabric
Canvas Corp Mini Clothespins – blue
Canvas Corp Jute Cord
Canvas Corp Journal Lines on White Paper
Tattered Angels Pure Mistable Crepe Paper
Canvas Corp Kraft cardstock
sticker and chipboard embellishments
watercolor paper
electronic die-cut machine
This watercolor technique can be done using many things (smooshing, packaging, etc.), but the process and end results are all the same! Beginning with a small piece of non-porous material (non-porous is the key…I used a piece of shelf liner), I spritz a small amount of water and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in “Patina.” This color is GORGEOUS (my fav!) and works perfectly with the picture of my girls on the beach. I carefully close the liner to gently mix any color that hasn’t blended with the water.
On a piece of watercolor paper, quickly flip the liner over and begin to move the color by pressing, lifting, and repeat. This is my first lift, and I can see that I will need more color for the design I have in mind.
So, I continue to add color until I’m satisfied with coverage. I also added splatters using the nozzle directly from the Glimmer Mist bottle. I love that even after adding water to the mist, the glimmer is still amazing! I let this dry completely before I move on to finishing the layout! If you’re going for a more intense color, you can use this same technique but without water.
Now that my background is dry, this layout comes together fairly quick! I adhered some die-cut flowers onto the background and the color really makes them stand-out! I layered several papers behind my photo. I also die-cut a small tag out of our Canvas Corp Stretched Canvas Fabric and topped it off with a piece of jute string and a cute mini clothespin.
With the addition of a title and some sticker embellishments, this layout is complete!
All it took was ONE bottle of pretty mist to get this page going!!
I hope you’ve enjoyed the super simple layout!
Thanks for stopping by!
