Masking fun!

Hello! Welcome to the Tattered Angels blog on this cold but sunny day!

This month we are focussing on masking techniques and I want to share a couple of art journal pages with you.

For this technique you first spray the background wht a light color. I used Sea Glass. Then you use the screen as a stamp using Tide Pool glam. This way you kind of create a permanent mask. When the Glam is dry you spray on top whit 2 darker colors (Marmelade and Burnt Red. The Glam works as a resist. The green is acrylic paint. The mask comes from the Fanciful set.

For this second technique I first sprayed the background with Candy Apple Red and put the heart mask on top. Then I added a layer of Gesso covering the whole page, added some Bunrt Red and Rum Punch Glimmer Mist and then removed the mask.

For this third technique I made my own masks using butterfly punches. I first sprayed a piece of book paper with Tattered Rose and then applied the punched out butterflies to the page using non-permanent adhesive. Then I added some gesso and Chalkboard (Polka Dot Pink, Firefly and Inchworm) and removed the butterflies while the paint was still wet. If you waint for the paint to dry it will work as an adhesive and you won’t be able to remove the butterflies anymore.

To show you that it’s also very well possible to work much simpler and cleaner with Glimmer Mist and Mask I’m sharing an older layout now on which I used the Butterflies mask. First I placed it on the cardstock and sprayed with Key Lime Pie. Then I used the mask as a stamp using the same color and stamping just a little off the sprayed image.

Hope you got a little bit inspired today to get out your own maskes and Tattered Angels products and have a creative and fun Sunday!

Happy misting!

Birgit

I think your designs are lovely…. I have just seen a demo using one of our screens but don’t understand how they work. The ‘glue/stuff’ was daubed on over the screen but then the sprays did not adhere to it so I don’t understand how the screen took on a resist characteristic.

    many thanks
