Patchwork Pumpkin Banner

We are so excited about our new Holiday Miscellanies papers! They are full of bold holiday colors and fun patterns. These papers can be mixed and matched for all the upcoming seasons – Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and more!

Do you decorate for every holiday?  It is so much fun and a great way to use your creative skills to decorate your home.  If you don’t see the holiday decor piece that you feel fit into your home, make them yourself.  Simple banners, quick pieces of mixed media art, ornaments, table runners, centerpieces and more can liven up any space in your home and show off your creative point of view, favorite holiday colors or something funky and unique.  The nice part about it is you get to decide by the papers you choose, the paint colors you opt for and the surfaces you include.

Here is a great banner that is perfect for the  Fall, Halloween or Autumn seasons, whichever you love to decorate for the most.  Crew member, Marie Nicole used the new papers to make a fun pumpkin banner and decorate her favorite new home accessory, this sweet standing chalkboard.  Such a fun piece to update for each season and you can place it anywhere in your home or maybe even on the front porch.  You can write a different message each day, each season or even a personal message for a Fall birthday.

I am in love with everything fall! I love the cooler weather, trips to the pumpkin patch, baking with apples and pumpkin, and most of all…decorating! I just feel that bringing those autumn touches into your home warms it up and makes it so inviting!

The Process

I recently got a few papers from Canvas Corp’s new Miscellanies Collection. I immediately thought it would be so cute to make a patchwork pumpkin banner so that’s what I did! I have it pictured here on my sidewalk sign that I have on our front porch. If you want to see how I made this chalkboard sign, just click HERE.

I started by taking my Miscellanies papers and cutting pumpkin shapes out with my Cricut. I placed my cut on the cross sections of the patterns to get as many of those fun patterns on my pumpkins as possible. Also, I wanted them to look like they were sewn or quilted together so I ran them through my sewing machine to add a stitched border.

Then I went through my craft stash and pulled out some buttons that I’ve had forever. I thought they went well with the whole sewn/quilted feel. I glued some of the buttons on each of the pumpkins. I then took the Autumn Sampler paper and cut out some of the tags and sayings. I love the gold shine on the kraft! For the little “Autumn” banner that you see hanging above the pumpkins, I just cut those triangles out of the Sampler paper, punched holes in the corners, then strung it up with some Jute Cord.

You can make banner pieces from your favorite burlap color, raw canvas or buy a pre-made banner and then decorate it to match your decor.  Tattered Angels paints can also be used to add additional colors to make it even more personal.  Patchwork pumpkin banner made with Canvas Corp's Miscellanies papers.

After getting my pumpkins embellished, I used a few scraps of Chocolate Burlap to add a ruffle to the side of the outside orange pumpkins. I used a hot glue gun for all my embellishments and to glue the pumpkins to the burlap squares. I used just a bit of foam adhesive here and there as well to add some dimension.

After all my pumpkins were finished, the only thing left to do was hang them up! I used some more of Canvas Corp’s Jute Cord and clipped my banners to it with the gold clothespins. I just love the mini clothespins, they are perfect for banners!

I also updated my front porch chalkboard sign with a more Fall appropriate quote. I just used a regular piece of chalk and did some simple cursive. As always, I filled in the awkward blank spots with some doodles. Chalkboard signs can seem scary but I’ve learned to just keep them simple.

We love how well our Miscellanies papers lend themselves to these cute little pumpkins! As the holidays draw nearer, we can’t wait to see how everyone uses these papers in their home decor and paper crafting. Have you done a project with our craft supplies? We want to see!
