Every year the Christmas decorations come down and the house seems so bare and empty. Valentine’s Day comes and goes very quickly, but it is fun to decorate for the holiday that reminds us of those we love so how about decorating for Spring with a little Valentine twist. You can leave up the decor until you are ready to decorate for Easter and enjoy!!
What makes a Spring mantel? We think a bit of green, new flowers and a touch of color. Pinks, Reds, Black and White are the perfect color palette with a touch of greenery and white and black accessories and golden candles, it works right?
Banners have been around a bit, so we thought we would mixed media, sew and jazz them up a bit. Here is what we gathered to make these banners and we didn’t use glue by the way, so simple, but if sewing is not your thing, glue them up and they will be just as beautiful.

Let’s start with the basics, the boring stuff… cords and clothespins. Did you know Canvas Corp offers a few different green cords that are ideal when working with greenery, it just disappears, but looks amazing with so many projects. The Mini Clothespins look great too with the color patellate.
Creating a combination of supplies that all coordinate and work together, but lots of texture, detail and color looks amazing. The Compose Your Life Mixed Media Pack has a bit of everything and all coordinates to give you additional pieces to layer and add to create the most amazing banner pieces.
The new shabby chic papers in the Compose Your Life Collection by Aga Baraniak look amazing as a layer on the banner pieces and a circle from the Floral Spheres paper, so simple and so cute.
Using different fabrics, textures, colors, papers create a one of a kind look that you will love. The 7gypsies Architextures Bases look amazing and they were added, sewn and layered and add a wonderful texture to the banners.
We have learned so many great mixed media techniques and they are so fun to use for DIY projects. This combination of paper, modeling paste and a stencil adds a lot of texture and detail. You can sew right through it and it really gives a dimensional touch to our projects.
Add the molding paste to printed papers, fabric and more for a great look. There are so many great stencils out there, so grab one from your stash and jazz up your papers. You need to let the paste dry 24 hours before you glue and paint them for best results.
Use the various fabrics and papers in the mixed media pack to create you banner pieces. No two need to be alike and you can layer the smaller piece in the front. Use long and thin pieces or cut them to fit and sew them to the top of each banner piece. This finishes off the banner pieces and gives them a great place to clip to the cord.
No two need to be made the same, just mix and match the different pieces and make sure they match your color palette.
Gather some pretty spring wreaths, new spring flowers, candles, white and black candle sticks and vases and together they create a simple mantel that is so eye catching.
This mantel happens to be all metal, so hanging items can be a bit tricky, try Command adhesives and use candle sticks like stocking hangers, they work the same way and allow you to hang wreaths and banners. The Avocado jute cord blends right in and keeps the looks so simple. Mixed different candles that have a handmade look just finish the look. The cross piece as made by a local artist who saved wood from the Joplin Tornado and created amazing art pieces, so the perfect finishing touch to this Spring mantel.
So if your mantel and decor is looking a bit bare after the holidays, grab a bit of greenery and start decorating, let’s get ready for Spring and welcome it in with a fresh touch of color.
