Quick and Easy Last Minute Thanksgiving Decor Ideas

Thanksgiving is fast approaching and we are excited to share some quick and easy decorative ideas on the blog today that you can whip up before the guests arrive.   There is no need for holiday specific papers or embellishments to create Thanksgiving decor that is just your style.  Choose the Fall color palette you love whether it is filled with rich oranges, reds and browns or more playful with orange, lime, purple and olive.  No matter what the color palette, burlap is a perfect companion in natural or choose colors in your palette.

Place Cards & Pumpkin Decor:

Erin shares this fun little Thanksgiving display with cute little place cards, handmade pumpkins and repurposed pumpkins, that look like they were all meant to be together.

Erin plans to place this display by the front entry of her home. Erin shares, “It helps to decorate the house, and also serves as a place to hold my name signs for the guest to pick and and place at the seat of their choice, as they arrive”   Erin made two different name signs, one for kids and one for adults.

placecards 1 wFor the larger signs I used CCB kraft, yellow, and red cardstock, layered it, diecut a swirl, added some bakers twine, stickers, and sequins/gems.  For the smaller signs I made them a bit simpler with a sheet of CCB Orange on Ivory Chevron cardstock, some bakers twine and a simple sticker with the name on CCB kraft cardstock.  I place the 3 CCB Canvas Placemats on the table layered over each other as a base.  I then took the CCB Burlap Money Sac and stuffed it with crumpled paper to help it fill out, and place it in the back of the arrangement.  I then had these cute stuffed pumpkins and a stuffed turkey I placed around the sac. You might recognize my deco mini pumpkins from a previous post (tutorial here) added into the decor.

There are many ways to decorate Thanksgiving, at the table, on a mantle, in a front hall.  Layering lots of textures and colors (all in the theme of autumn colors) always works well!!  Gobble Gobble!!

Quick and Easy Fall Wreath:

Erin also created this very cool Fall Wreath that is a show stopper for the front door.  You can drop by her blog Scraps of Reflections and see how it comes together.

A bit of canvas wraps easily around an old wreath  you can recycle and cover up anything that needs to be covered.  Adorned with simple embellishments that all have a handmade feel including canvas and burlap flowers, canvas and burlap shapes and pieces of jute rope.  Add faux fall stems and your wreath comes quickly together.

Painted Fall Feathers and Die Cut Table Top Ideas for your Thanksgiving Table:

Have a little painting fun with Canvas Corp Large Feathers and Tattered Angels Fall paint colors.  This paper features a range of different feathers that look amazing in oranges, yellows, olives and reds.  Hang them up over the mantel or spread them across the Thanksgiving table.

Looking for quick and easy ideas.  Why not stencil simple leaves onto burlap or canvas placemats with Dreamweaver Stencils and Tattered Angels High Impact Paints.  They both work so well together on burlap.

IMG_3664Grab your die cut machine and slip in some red, orange, gold, ivory, kraft and brown papers and create simple place cards, treat bags, napkin rings and cutlery holders.  Little touches are so simple with the help of your favorite die cut machine, don’t worry if you don’t have any Fall die cuts, choose an everyday one and let the colors do the talking.

Fall Terra-Cotta Painted Pots:

We just love terra-cotta pots and so does Tattered Angels High Impact Paints.  The inside is painted with Black High Impact and the outside with Ivory, Red and Antique Gold.  Have fun with a few distressing techniques and add your favorite number rub on – If you have not taken your rub-ons out in a while, now is the time, they are terrific for simple Creative DIY Projects.  These pots are ready to hold mums, silverware, nuts, etc.

If you are in the mood to paint, why not paint old jars, cans and bottles to hold flowers, branches, silverware or just look good all together.

Thanksgiving Thankful Tree:

Create a wish tree for your Thanksgiving decor.  Find an old tree branch, a simple metal tree or even a live evergreen you can mist any color you choose.  Add questions for the Thanksgiving table “What event are you most thankful for in 2015?” or “Who is the one person from your childhood you are most thankful for having in your life”  or have a little fun and ask silly questions, family questions or trivia.

The painted leaves are created with Tattered Angels High Impact Paint.  They shine beautifully and the paint protects them from crumbling.

Thanksgiving Table Bottles:

We love the idea of recycling wine and vintage bottles.  Fill them with water and wrap with a wine sack marked H20 and put them on the table for pretty water bottles that you can replace as they become empty.  No need to use plastic water bottles.  You can keep them filled and chilled and ready to go.  They also make great centerpiece decor.

Kid’s Feather Turkey:

Now a little something for the kids to do….note:  this project was actually done by a 5 year old and he was so very proud.  The Canvas Corp Large Feathers were painted with an array of Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze Paints, it is so easy with the little brush, even a 5 year old can be an accomplished painter.  Fussy cut those feathers and wow.  Now we did help a bit with the fussy cutting, but love that he painted every one of the feathers himself and loved doing it.

So enjoy the final days of Fall as we get ready to step into the busy holiday season.  There is so much for us to be thankful for and just the opportunity to create what we want, when we want and express ourselves.  Seems so simple, but not everyone has the same creative freedom.

Happy Creating!!!
