Jen here and I had the absolute pleasure of working for the first time with the Silhouette CAMEO electronic cutting machine. I truly believe that it was sent from Scrapbook Heaven! It was so easy to work with and I love having the ability to customize anything through the software program. I will have to ask Santa for one this year!
We are excited to announce our special price of the Limited Edition Silhouette Christmas Advent Calendar Shadowbox for $29.99 when you use the code CANVAS at the checkout. (http://silhouetteamerica.com/adventCalendar.aspx)
Offer good from November 1st-11th, don’t miss out!
The shadowbox comes with a free download card to download all of the boxes and/or drawers, as well as the back shapes of the individual cubbies.
Silhouette asked me to make a Canvas Corp version using their shadowbox for an Advent Calendar, how can I refuse! I found that I was able to get familiar with the machine quickly. I think I was smiling the whole time I was designing for this project!
I mixed up the boxes with the drawers for a mixed look, on the Silhouette website they have some with all boxes are all drawers that are fabulous!
This is a picture of the shadowbox when I was starting to put the background paper in, I found that Fabri-Tac by Beacon Adhesive worked the best keeping the paper attached to the box and I used it when I put the boxes and drawers together.
This is the before embellishing the boxes picture. I loved not having to figure out the sizes for all of the cubbies, that helped so much that it was pre-designed!
For the dates, I custom cut them using the software. I was able to use a font that was already on my computer and make the different font sizes according to the size of the box. I used Lobster 1.4 font. Canvas Corp sells Thickstock which is a heavy cardstock and I decided to use that then make them into stickers using the Xyron create-a-sticker machine.
I used a Canvas Corp 2″x2″ stretched burlap for the first drawer and added Canvas Corp black bumpers that were cut in half for a scalloped look.
You can have different papers for the lids or bottom parts of the boxes. On this box, I chose to do a black and white mini dot paper.

This is so cute! I just love the colors and variety of boxes you used! I’m so disappointed that I’m so late to the party discovering these beautiful advent calendar shadow boxes. Since coming across them on Pinterest last month, I’ve looked everywhere to purchase one, with no such luck. So I’m left trying to DIY one. I’d like to make it part of my gallery wall in my craft room. Would you be able to give me the the sizes for all of the cubbies? That would be a huge help. I read somewhere that the outside measurements are 17×16.
Thank you for any help you can offer in this request!
