Spellbinders & Canvas Corp Brands Hop: Whimsical Woodland Blog Fest Day 3

Oct Hop Social Media

Today marks day 3 of Spellbinders® Whimsical Woodland Blog Fest and Partner Blog Hop and we were so thrilled to be invited to participate and to share a special invitation and place card on National Card Day today!!!!!  In honor of this day we encourage you to make and send Thanksgiving invitations this year, even if it is “just family.”

We were so excited when we opened a package, from Spellbinders earlier this Fall.  The package was filled with fun new dies from their newest collections.  The whimsical Woodland Collection let’s your imagination wander through an imaginary, whimsical fall world with acorns, leaves, foxes, owls, stylized flowers, pinecones and mushrooms and companion dies from The new Simply Said Collection featuring Phrase Set One – filled with fun words perfect for the fall season and the Triple Tier Collection featuring 3 different doily style round dies that are perfect for so many fall DIY projects.

We instantly thought fall home decor and creative ideas for a Thanksgiving table top.  We gathered all that was orange, chocolate, kraft, ivory, white and then could not stop cutting whimsical Fall shapes.  Spellbinders® Dies and Die Machines are the perfect accessory when planning your Halloween, Fall, Holiday table decor, helping you make place settings for 2 to 200 in a snap.

Our first project started out as a place setting and transformed into a full blow Thanksgiving Party Plan and our second project is a fun and simple Fall Paper Wreath made from die cut doilies and accents from the Woodland Collection that is the perfect decor for the fall.

We are excited to let you know you are eligible to win a daily prize and be included in the running for a grand prize.  See all the details below and links to our other blog partners.  Don’t forget to leave us a comment and let us know what you think!!!!

If you are looking for some creative ideas for setting your Thanksgiving table this season, Johnna shares with us some simple, creative and inexpensive ideas that look amazing.  So whether you are setting for a few or a big crew you will be amazed at how easy they are with the help of the Spellbinders.  You can die cut more than one at a time with a breeze, making the process of making multiple invites, place cards, napkin rings, treat bags and more.

Set the Table with ‘Thanks’ by Johnna Kennedy

Johnna here!!!  Every party should start with an invitation and the Canvas Corp Stitched Card with Burlap and  5×7 Canvas Envelope are the perfect fall surface and yes you can even mail fabric envelopes.  Just tack them closed, add and address and stitch or glue on a stamp and off it goes.  I checked with my local Postmaster before mailing mine in the past and they were very helpful.

The Invitation

IMG_3611

Supplies:  Canvas Corp Stitched Greeting Card – Ivory with Burlap , 5×7 Canvas Envelope, 12×12 Chocolate on Ivory Paper, 12×12 Canvas Sheet, Orange Ticking Fringe, Tattered Angles Decor & DIY Paint Amber, Glimmer Glaze Saffron Spellbinders Dies S4-490 Triple Tier, Spellbinders S2-191 Acorn and S2-192 Pinecones from the Woodland Collection and S4-563 Phrase Set One from the Simply Said Collection.IMG_35301 – Start by die cutting and embossing with the largest in the  Three Tier pack from the Chocolate on Ivory paper, we flipped it over to show the ivory side for the card and then die cut the Thanks from the same paper, but make sure that the chocolate side is up right when you cut the word Thanks. Here are some great videos on the Spellbinders Website on die cutting and embossing – it is so fun and easy and the results are amazing.

IMG_3548

2 – Rip a 3″-4″ strip of canvas from the sheet – you can cut it, but the ripped look gives a more handmade look.  The strip is approx. 1″ wide.  Glue into place with Beacon’s Fabri-Tac Glue, which is great when gluing paper, fabric and other textures together.

IMG_3588

3 – Using the Stencil you made cutting the Thanks out you can then stencil onto your envelope with the Saffron Glimmer Glaze which comes with a little brush, so easy, it is like crafty nail polish.

IMG_3582

4 – The acorn stencil was made using a stencil created from one of the other projects you will see in just a bit, you can use it to stencil onto the canvas envelope with the Tattered Angels Amber Decor & DIY Paint.  We suggest pouring just a bit on a plate and dab the brush into the paint and remove as much a you can to apply with a dry brush technique through the stencil onto the canvas.  This paint is amazing and will be permanent, so no worries as the envelope travels though the mail and might get a bit wet.  When the paint is dry, create the top of the acorn with the Saffron Glimmer Glaze and the stem to show a nice contrast.

IMG_3566

5 – Rip the Ticking Fringe in 1/2 longways and create a ruffle by dropping a line of Fabri-Tac Glue and ruffle the Ticking in place as you go on the inside of the envelope flap.

IMG_3605

So whether your are making one or a dozen, they are so quick and easy.

IMG_3610

Place Cards

Make them alike or make each one a bit different using your favorite dies from the Whimsical Woodland Collection.  I love the combination of ivory, white, chocolate and kraft papers to make my place cards.  You can jot down each person’s name or die cut fun words like Sweet, Thanks, Love….
IMG_3630Supplies:  Canvas Corp Place Cards White, 12×12 Burlap Sheet, 12×12 Canvas Sheet, 12×12 Kraft Journal Line Paper12×12 Chocolate on Ivory Paper;  7gypsies Domed Stud Antique Brass  Spellbinders Dies:   S2-191 Acorns from the Woodland Collection;  Sweet S4-563 Phrase Set One from the Simply Said Collection and Graphic Flowers die.

1- To make the Place Cards I die cut a series of acorns and pinecones, round circles, words and flowers and mixed and matched them to create a different place card for each guest.  The amount of burlap, canvas and paper will depend on the number of people coming to your event.

IMG_3534

2 – Glue the assorted pieces in place on the folded Place Cards and add each person’s name, a fun sentiment or just make them pretty.  Your house your creative rules.

IMG_3674

3 – Place on each place setting.  The stencils created when the acorns are cut is what I used to stencil the canvas envelopes.  The Die Cut napkin ring was created with the pinecone die and wrapping it around the napkin, now that is the easiest napkin ring i have ever made.

IMG_3650

Treat Bags

It is always fun to make and give little gifts during the holidays and Thanksgiving is a perfect time to make a little treat bag for each place setting.  I filled this little kraft bags with Candy Corn and wrapped them up with die cut doilies.

IMG_3679Supplies:  Canvas Corp Small Kraft Bags, Fall Mini Clothespins, 12×12 Chocolate & Ivory Solid Paper Spellbinders Dies: S4-490 Triple Tier and S4-563 Phrase Set One From the Simply Said Collection – Thanks

1 – Die cut the round doilies leaving some whole while others I cut out the center (you can use any left over centers on your place cards) and then cut a series of Thanks words.  Mixing and matching the chocolate and the ivory sides of the paper.IMG_3544

2 – Glue a doily and the word to each bag, mixing and matching the chocolate and ivory sides of the paper and then clip with a single mini clothespin after you fill with Fall Candy Treats.

IMG_3599

Place Setting

Create unique place settings with home decor blanks, paint, paper, fabric and die cuts and the results are oh so fun.  The stenciled placemat starts the pacesetting and  fun touches such as painted mason jars, die cut napkin and silverware rings and placed the treat bag and place card in just the right spot.  You can even scatter fall painted feathers from the Canvas Corp Chocolate and Ivory Large Feathers Paper.

IMG_3666

Supplies:  Canvas Corp Burlap Placemat, 30×36 Orange Ticking, 12×12 Chocolate and Ivory Paper, 12×12 Kraft Journal Lines and 12×12 Orange and Ivory Tile, Tattered Angels Decor and DIY Paints Amber and Cordovan; High Impact Paint Antique Gold Paint and Orange; Stampendous Dreamweaver Stencil Oak Leaf and Beacon’s Fabric-Tac Glue

1 – Place the Dreamweaver stencil randomly over the burlap placemat and choose one or multiple fall color paints to stencil in place.  Pour the paint onto a plate and apply with a dry brush technique.

IMG_25832 – Glue the acorns to pieces of the Orange ticking and tie your silverware together and add the die cut acorns.

IMG_36513 – Place your plate, silverware, napkins made from the Orange Ticking, place card and treat bag and add details like wrapping old bottles and jars with a piece of ticking and accent with a simple paper seasonal die cut, Paint Mason jars with Tattered Angels Decor & DIY Paint – Crystal; place assorted paper cut doilies onto the plate and below the Mason Jar.  Place gourds, small pumpkins, old jars, vintage baskets and other found objects in the center of the table for a creative centerpiece.

Now it is time to decorate and Erin had a great time transforming everyday papers and paints into fun and trendy Fall decor that is perfect for the all in the dining room, over the fireplace or the front door.  We are going to share her wreath with you today, but want to mention the painted fall feathers, painted terra cotta pots and buffet place cards she added to her collection.

Thanks Wreath by Erin Brelsford

IMG_3489Hi this is Erin and I am excited to share with you the Fall wreath I created for the Spellbinders Whimsical Woodland Fest Blog.  When I saw the Triple Tier Dies S4-490 I immediately knew I had to make a Fall wreath.

Supplies:  Canvas Corp Solid Printed Papers – Gold Metallic on Kraft, Black on Kraft, Chocolate on Kraft, Orange on White, Ivory, Chocolate on Ivory and the Orange & Black Stitched Diamonds from the Canvas Corp Haunt It Collection; 12×12 Burlap Sheet and 225′ Jute Ball.  Spellbinders Dies S2-191 Acorns and S2-192 Pinecones from the Woodland Collection ; S4-563 Phrase Set One from the new Simply Said Collection and Triple Tier Dies S4-490; Fabric-Tac Glue

1 – Start with a flat round wreath or you can make one by recycling a piece of cardboard box, the goal of this wreath is to make it flat to it sits nicely on the wall, then die cut with the largest size Triple Tier Circle leaving the centers in place in a  range of the assorted Fall paper colors.  Glue them into place around the wreath layering assorted colors.  When done cut only the centers to make a center circle.

IMG_3523

2 – Die Cut an assortment of flowers in both sizes, leaves and acorns, blending the paper colors.  Place them at the top and off center bottom right in two clusters.

IMG_34943 – Die cut the word thanks from the Ivory Cardstock and glue it to a piece of burlap and add to the top cluster of flowers and then glue a piece of Jute in the back to hold your wreath into place.

IMG_3509

I accented the wreath with painted feathers that were fussy cut from the Canvas Corp Chocolate and Ivory Large Feathers letting them hang on the wall with pieces of the jute cord.

IMG_3657

We loved how well the projects worked together and thought they make a terrific table top setting, buffet setting or could even be adapted to a fall mantel setting.  These techniques can be used for any holiday, just a switch of the paint colors, surfaces and a few dies and you are ready to go.

Enjoy creating your Thanksgiving table decor for the upcoming holidays, we hope these simple, paper, paint and die cutting ideas will inspire your imagination and spark a love for Spellbinders new Woodland Collection, as much as, we have.
