Hello, Iris Rodriguez here today, sharing my handmade vintage keys necklace – a stylish and easy project.
I enjoy vintage, time worn look on jewelry and art projects. I am especially fond of skeleton keys. I like them in art, on art journals, home décor and, of course, used in jewelry projects. I think there is something inspirational about keys… the idea that keys opens things, I take as a metaphor for opening your world to new ideas, and thoughts.
The 7gypsies vintage keys are awesome and well made. For this necklace, I have attached three keys with small chain and wires. The keys hang on a beaded chain.
What you’ll need:
7gypsies Antique Black Keys (Set of 3)
Chain Nose Pliers and Flush Cutter Pliers
Chain and Open Jump Rings
24 Gauge Wire
Determine the distance between the keys and cut a piece of chain that fits the distance.
Cut about 3 inches of the 24 gauge wire.
Thread the wire into the last link in the chain and on the end, thread into key.
Wrap the wire around the key about 4 times and cut the end with the flush cutters.
Repeat this step for the rest of chain and key links.
To make the bail wrap wire around the jump ring and key. Then attach the jump ring onto the necklace.
Embellish with findings, beads, fibers, rhinestones.
With just a few products, you can make a one-off piece of jewelry that will make you stand out in the crowd.
Happy crafting!
