Using stencils, masks, and templates is my absolute favourite way to play with Tattered Angels paints so I was in heaven with this brief. I love to layer my stencils and colours to create a complex and visually pleasing background for my scrapbook pages and I love that each background is completely different even when similar colours are used. I also like to make the most of my mists and always brayer a piece of white cardstock over backgrounds I am creating to pick up the paint from the stencil, thus creating another background for future use, as below. The dark green colour came from mixing Dark Denim and Wheat Beer Glimmer Mists, it’s so cool when effects like this happen by accident, don’t you think!
This is the page I did using the background on the right, I actually ended up using it upside-down. I found some chipboard borders (stars & diamonds) and tore a piece of scrap paper to use as masks with Dark Denim Glimmer Mist, two Crafter’s Workshop templates, houndstooth with Harvest Orange Glimmer Mist, and brick wall with Wheat Beer Glimmer Mist, and some Iridescent Gold heat dried on the black cardstock.
For my next project I used the gorgeous new Christmas colours LED Red and Bubble Light Green with Tattered Angels Mementos Glimmer Screens, like Anna, I love these screens for their versatility. First I used them as a mask, then as a stamp with some Oil Slick Glimmer Glaze, I pressed my background onto the leftover glaze on my pink mat to get the splotches. I also used some Tattered Angels Crepe Ribbon for the bow. The photo mats and banner flags are using the same two colours on Kraft cardstock.
My third project is a bright baby boy page using the chipboard star border (which I used as a mask on my first page), another Crafter’s Workshop template, and an old die-cut 12×12 paper I found. I went with shades of blue and red to match the stars and chipboard alpha, which in turn were chosen to match his shirt.
There are such a variety of things you can use as masks and stencils with your mists, I challenge you to look around and find some interesting new things to try and how about posting the results for us to see on our FaceBook page here.
Go on….. you know you want to 😀
Thanks for dropping by and happy misting!
