We love Betsy Skagen’s off-the-wall cards she made by combining vintage photos with hilarious captions a la MikWright or Anne Taintor. If you don’t have family photos of your own to use, you can find plenty of free downloads online or pick up some originals at your local antique store, flea market or charity shop.
I seem to have become the digital curator of family photos–including some going back generations to before our family immigrated from Sweden. After scanning and printing the photos, I could not resist having some fun with these dour faces and creating some twisted greeting cards. 7gypsies and Canvas Corp papers complemented the photos perfectly.
Materials Used:
Canvas Corp – Chocolate and Kraft Mini Dot Paper
7gypsies – Ordre Du Jour 8×8 Paper Pad
Tattered Angels – Glimmer Mist Starter Kit – Metallic
Beacon Zip Dry Paper Glue
Distress Ink
Lace
Assorted Doo Dads
It was the way people posed for photos in the day, but the stern look on the woman’s face is downright scary. It kind of looks like me when my teens, leaving a trail of clothes throughout the house. It seemed to me the card was just begging for this caption, “If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands.”
“I’m not bossy, I just have better ideas than you.” She took the words right out of my mouth. Oh wait, I wrote that.
I hope you don’t get offended at this one. I debated about sharing it here, but my husband thought it was the funniest of the bunch.
