Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value.
Karina Chelmaniacka picked an old glass bottle and gave it a new steamunk-ish life.
Let’s allow her to tell us about her new project…
Since February is a heart awarness month, I came up with this project. It is a recycled bottle for a tincture strenghtening the heart 🙂 It was really fun to make and some great products were involved:)
I hope you enjoy and find inspiration in my process.
What you’ll need to alter your bottle:
7gypsies Architextures™ Junque Pack – Warehouse
Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins Mini Art – Elegant Ladies
Tattered Angels High Impact Paint – blue and copper
7gypsies Gypsy Frames
black gesso, old jewelery chain, thread, gauze, modelling paste, adhesive multimedium gel
I cleaned and dried the bottle first, then I started gluing pieces of gauze and thread for texture.
I also added some modelling paste and let it dry.
I thoroughly applied two layers of black gesso. You can use white or transparent gesso as well.
I wanted it to be dark so I chose dark primer.
While the gesso was drying, I cut out my lady from the Mixed Media Origins sheet.
Then I colored it with water diluted High Impact paint in copper.
Next, I cut a circle and a heart from this lovely, rusty sheet metal and glued it to the charm.
When the bottle was finally dry, I covered it with High Impact paint in blue.
Then again let it dry. Next step was gently painting the bottle copper with a soft brush, highlighting just the textured parts.
Finally, I started adding my embelishments. I used a strong adhesive multimedium gel for the metal parts.
And voila!
The bottle is ready to pour tincture of your choice into it:)
Happy upcycling!
