Hello everyone! Monica Longard here and this is my second project for the Canvas Corp Brands Crew. I made this project for a swap that I was in for a Facebook craft group I belong to. The theme was to alter a cigar box and to make a card to put into it as well. I had just received my new Tattered Angels Color Wash paints and really wanted to try them out on the wooden box I had for this project. I also wanted to use the new 7gypsies paper pad I just ordered as well.
Materials used for the project:
Wooden Cigar Box
Tattered Angels Color Wash Paint – Faux Finish Patina, Faux Finish Old Bronze, Faux Finish Brass
7gypsies Architextures 8X8 Paper Pad
7gypsies Black Key Set
7gypsies Gears: Industrial
miscellaneous flowers, glitter and ephemera
Tim Holtz Gears Stencil
Scor tape, Liquid Adhesive
Prima Distressing Tool
Ranger Sepia Brown Archival Ink
Blending tool, Palette knife, scissors
I started the project by taking the plain wooden box and adding some gesso through a stencil to create some texture.
The next step was to paint the entire box. I painted the first layer with the Tattered Angels Color Wash paint. I used the color Faux Finish – Patina for the first layer and covered the whole box with that. Then I used the other two colours (Faux Finish – Old Bronze and Faux Finish – Brass) in certain places. I wanted to highlight the places that I had put the gesso on the box.
Once I had the painting done, I added paper on the inside of the box, as well as a couple strategic places on the front and back of the box. I distressed all the edges of the paper for this step, as well as inking them to give them a vintage look.
Once all the paper was added, I finished off the box by adding all the various flowers, glitter and ephemera I had gathered for this project.
I hope you enjoyed my little tutorial.
Have a great day!
