Baby Boy Card and Gift Tag

Simple Baby Card and Gift Tag CC Heidi Jakobs

Hi everyone, Heidi from www.makeyourlifecolourful.com here; today I’m showing you a fun baby boy card with a matching gift tag (to put on a present, for example). Canvas Corp has wonderfully matching patterned papers in blue, chocolate and ivory and, combined with kraft colored cardstock, I had everything I needed for this project!

Step 1:

I starting with designing the lay out for my card, for this I choose several different patterned papers in blue, chocolate and ivory and in the end I also added some kraft colored card stock for a balanced design. The sentiment and the little feet are from the Canvas Corp “It’s a Boy Sampler on Ivory“ patterned paper, I just had to fussy cut around the lines. I also die cut squares in different sizes from the Canvas Corp “Blue & Ivory Baby Words“ and “Blue & Ivory Chevron“ patterned paper. For these different elements I die cut mats from the Canvas Corp “Chocolate on Ivory“ paper using square and circle shaped nesting dies. Later on I also choose to create another mat from kraft coloured card stock (because it brought the whole design together), for this I used the backside of the Canvas Corp “Black & Kraft Number Paper“ (because that’s what I had on hand). Last but not least I also cut a strip of the Canvas Corp “kraft colored E-Flute paper“ for an additional fun element in my project. And as my base I choose a square Canvas Corp white card base (with matching envelope).

Step 2:

To create a matching gift tag I used mostly the same papers: I started with the middled sized tag that I cut from kraft colored paper (I used the “Dutch Doobadoo Shape Art Tag XL“ for this (it’s a stencil shape that you can use to draw different lines in the shape of a tag), but you can of course do this by hand as well). Then I cut a tag shape slightly smaller from the “Blue & Ivory Baby Words“ patterned paper that I used before and a slightly larger tag shape from the kraft colored E-Flute paper. The sentiments and the little hands are from the “It’s a Boy Sampler on Ivory“ paper that I also used for the card. I cut the text from the patterned paper up in little strips and added the sentiments that I liked best. Like with the card I created mats from the “Chocolate on Ivory“ paper.

I really love how well these papers all work together!

Step 3:

To ad a fun extra element to the project I stamped on the card base, one of the tag shapes and the “Blue & Ivory Chevron“ cut square for the card several times with a Prima Marketing “Chevron“ stamp and using some Memento “Espresso Truffle“ ink. I also edged the card base and the kraft colored tag shape with the same ink and using a foam applicator tool.

Step 4:

And then it’s time to put the card and the tag together: I first adhered the mats together using liquid glue, and then between the different layers I used one and two millimetre foam tape to create more dimension on my project (but still make it able to go through the mail easily). For example: on the card I wrapped the E-Flute paper around the back, causing the back to be uneven, by adding one millimetre foam tape to parts of the back of this panel it still is flat on the card. The same with the layer that’s on top of the E-Flute strip. The sentiments and the little feet/hand are also raised using one and two millimetre thick foam tape.

To finish the tag I punched a hole in the top and added some pieces of matching blue colored ribbon from my stash and those I adhered together with a bow that I made from a piece of Canvas Corp “Jute Cord“ which matches the kraft card stock perfectly!
