Our blank canvas fabric can be used in so many ways! We have blank pillowcases, aprons, home decor blanks, and more ready-made items to customize and enjoy. We also have canvas scraps and sheets of canvas that you can cut up and sew with! Marie Nicole used some of our scraps to make a pair of simple banners to hang in the background of her daughter’s photo shoot. We love how this turned out!
MATERIALS USED:
- Canvas Corp canvas scraps
- Canvas Corp Natural Cord
- Tattered Angels Gold Glimmer Glam
- Pink Ruffled Decorative Trim
- Hot Glue Gun
For my daughter’s first birthday, I knew I wanted to set up a smash cake photo session! I decided to keep the props simple, so I chose a few items that coordinated with my theme of white, light pink, and gold and arranged them as shown above. I find when I am doing a photo shoot, keeping the props and background simple helps bring the focus on the main subject- in this case my baby girl!
To make the banners, I grabbed my canvas fabric from Canvas Corp and then hand cut a number of triangles. You could use a template or ruler for this as well, but since I did not need each triangle to be exactly perfect, I just eyeballed it. That’s how easy making a banner can be!
After the triangles for the banner were cut, I took my Gold Glimmer Glam and added some sparkly gold polka dots to half of the triangles. Again, I did this quickly and simply by just taking a round foam brush, dipping in into the paint, and then adding it to the fabric. I held it onto the triangle pieces for a few seconds while twisting the paintbrush. This helped the paint to soak in while making sure I achieved a nice, round circle. Of course, I have a number of the polka dots that turned out to be less than perfect, but that’s ok! I think it adds character.
With my polka dot banner completed, I moved on to my second one. For this one, I simply used some decorative trim that I had leftover from a previous project, and hot glued some to the top of each triangle piece. Then, I took all my triangle banner pieces and hot glued them to my Canvas Corp Natural Cord. You want to make sure that you leave some extra length on each end of the banners so that you can tie it up wherever you need to!
That’s it! Two simple photo backdrop banners completed in almost no time at all! The other photo props you see are very simple as well- a white towel for my girl to sit on, a pink basket (that I stole from her changing table), her stuffed bunny, and of course, cake!
It was a very hot afternoon, so we kept the photo shoot short and sweet! Baby girl loved her cake, and we captured some memories to remember in years to come!
