When decorating for a guest house or guest room, it is always fun and inviting to add pieces that are interesting and beautiful!
Tilla created two gorgeous mixed media pillow covers to adorn her guest bed that tell a story and matches perfectly with her decor. Bits of blue canvas, burlap, papers and ephemera come together alongside some Tattered Angels paints on these pillowcases to make a stunning focal point on the guest bed!
I was inspired by all these beautiful, ruff pieces of fabric in different colors and I have a weakness for the natural canvas look. I wanted to do a pillow cover in a shabby chic style but also try out to use a mix of media, not just fabric. I think it turned out great and just like I wanted! I decided before I started that the pillow was just going to be a pretty decor detail in my guest house, not a pillow to sleep on. That is why I wasn’t afraid to use paper and paint etc.
Materials Tilla used for this project:
Canvas Corp – Canvas pillow cover, square 14×14
Canvas Corp – Burlap flower dark blue
Canvas Corp – Burlap fabric natural and blue
7gypsies – Gypsy Mixed Media Pad Architextures
Tattered Angels – Naturally aged kit concrete ( Architexture faux finish paint kit)
Glue ( Panokit)
I painted all around the pillow cover with Gesso.
I applied a layer of the base in the Naturally aged kit – Tan High Impact Paint.
After letting the first layer dry, I applied the second layer – Boardwalk Glimmer Mist.
Then added some shading using Valencia Chalkboard Mist.
And the last bottle in the kit – Chalk Chalkboard mist. It turned out great and it was very fun to use!
A beautiful natural aged look.
I splashed some white gesso over the whole thing.
Now it was time to decorate with a mix of elements.
I cut out pieces of paper and fabric and moped around until I was satisfied with the look.
I chose the blue shades to match the color theme in my guest house.
Once the first cover was finished, I couldn’t stop myself so… I made another one…
I placed both pillows in their new home!
We love how easy it is to take our blank pillows and create on them!
You may go for a mixed media look like Tilla did here, or there are so many other options! Stencil, paint, sew, applique, vinyl- all these techniques are available for you to create just the pillow you need to complete your decor look.
Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today to take a look at these stunning pillows!
