So each of the Crew Members helping with this match up got the cutest little package in the mail filled with a wonderful selection of stencils that were hand-picked by the Designers. The stencils we received measured 4″x4″ and are the perfect size for projects big and small and the assortment of designs inspired creativity immediately. The first thing that came to our minds here in the studio were DIY coasters. The stencil size was perfect and the ideas and themes were endless.
We started with two sets of Canvas Corp Coasters – Round (set of 4) and Square (set of 4). Canvas Coasters are created with two pieces of canvas that are sewn together with the edges exposed. These trendy little craft surfaces make the perfect housewarming gift, cocktail party decor or for every season. The perfect sized StencilGirl Stencils fit right onto the coasters and every design we had would have been terrific. We used some TCW Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste to bring out the stencil design and wow we are in love with the results. We matched up with The Crafter’s Workshop last month and had a ball, you an see what happens when great companies work together.
Apply the modeling paste through the stencil onto the canvas with a flat knife, it is so easy and remove the stencil and repeat until each coater is done. Then let the fun begin…..paint them anyway you choose – so much fun. We started with one of the Naturally Aged Kits from Tattered Angels – these kits are wonderful and work on a wide range of surfaces. Four paints in each kit to create a wide range of different faux finish surfaces from stone to architecture finishes and from wood finishes to rustic metal. Turquoise was the perfect choice with this simply stencil design. Each kit comes with complete full color, step by step instructions making it easy to make your own turquoise. Each of the coasters are different and that makes them so very cool.
Line them up next to your favorite glasses and make sure each guest has one at your next get together. Each one is a bit different which makes them wonderfully unique.
The rose stencil design truly intrigued us, it was so cool and we think it was made for the Canvas Corp Round Coasters. The freeform style of the design could not be more perfect with the rustic, trendy coasters and then when they were misted, wow did they look amazing. Mist the entire coaster with Glimmer Mist. You will find your favorite red or pink color of mist right here – Reds or Pinks. The canvas and the modeling paste each accept the Glimmer Mist a bit differently giving them a wonderful look.
Add a wine glass to the stop of each of these gorgeous coasters and the clear glass of the base let’s the beautiful art shine right through.
Create a simple display with your wine, wooden cutting board, handmade rose coasters and wine glasses for your next girls night out, dinner with your favorite couple or get ready for spring with a little color. We have to say we love the the wine – blank canvas wine it not only is a great wine, but to have a blank label and a welcome to make your own label, now that is our type of creativity with great taste too.
We did not stop there, nope we had to try one more coaster style using Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins – if you are not familiar with this paper, you have got to try it, it has cloth-like fibers in it, so it stands up to liquid and water whether it is the paint you are using or the condensation from the class. This is a quick and easy way to make themed coasters for any event. You can make nine 4″x4″ coasters with one piece of paper. Using the same modeling paste, we used the rose stencil and knife and added the texture randomly to the full paper and let it dry. Then we cut the paper into 9 squares and misted each one with a different color Mist. The paper we used had an safari theme so choosing reds, golds, olive and neutral colors was the perfect choice.
Adding texture to printed papers takes the paper to a whole new place and gives it such a different look and feel. Adding Glimmer Mist then adds yet another wonderful dimension.
We have to say we love making coasters. You can create them for every theme, event and get together and they will be a show piece of the event.
