I live in beautiful Vienna, the capital of Austria.
Describe your design style…
My design style is mostly textural and tends towards mixed media, steampunk, grunge and industrial. I love to use old book pages and found objects in my work. I do canvases and ATCs as well as assemblage, altered art and altered art jewelry. I love to learn and try new techniques and there are so many of them!
Who or what do you give credit to inspiring your creativity?
Nature – the Vienna Woods, the Danube wetlands, Austria’s beautiful Alps and lakes.
Texture as it can be found with worn and weathered surfaces of all kinds. Decay in general. Old and found objects. Things that tell a story. And nature in general of course.
What is your favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product? and why? Just one please!!!!
My favourite at the moment are the High Impact paints as I can scrape them on with a palette knife and create beautiful random patterns with them.
We asked Claudia to share with us her favourite project she made using CCB products.
Why is it your favorite?
Because it is an “all Canvas Corp Brands” products project and has a lot of layering and texture on it. I loved playing with the transparency of the Glimmer Mists as well as with the opacity of the High Impact paint. And I love the texture from the canvas itself as it adds brilliantly to the piece’s design!
Do you teach and if so tell us a bit about what you teach, where you go and some of your favorite places?
I was an arts and woodworks teacher at secondary school for almost twenty years before I became a mom and freelance artist, designer and writer. Two years ago, I taught a “Mixed Media Mini Shrine” class at “That Craft Place” in the UK and a stencil and acrylic paint workshop as a guest teacher at the renowned Sir Karl Popper School in Vienna.
I am the happiest doing…
dancing lessons with my husband, creating a happy mess at my studio desk, hiking and taking nature photographs, kayaking, walking and cuddling my dog, cooking for friends, singing.
is my crammed studio where I have everything close at hand and don’t need to clean up in between sessions.
Tell us one cool detail about your studio or craft space…
What I really like about my studio is that I share it with my husband. He has his own area where he works at his computer and designs speech recognition software when he’s not at his office while I paint, stamp and craft away at my own desk. I love those days spent in creative harmony!
Tell us one thing fun about you we might not know…
You might not know that I also love to write poetry.
Share with us anything about your creative life that you feel would inspire others…
I found that I create the best art when I have a story to tell with my project and when that story is an important one for me to tell. These pieces have real “life” in them – and that becomes visible somehow. It’s meaning that adds that important extra to your work – not skill in the first place.
