Today, we get to know Jean Marmo.
Where do you reside? City, State, Country
I live in a small town just northeast of the city of Grand Rapids – it is called Rockford, MI, USA.
Describe your design style…
I am not sure what to call my style. When I began scrapbooking ‘way back then’, the craft consisted of cardstock, deco scissors and stickers. In addition to layouts, I now create mixed media canvases, cards and even decor projects. These projects include mists, and texture pastes, burlap and more in addition to the wonderful pattern papers now available. I do however think that my style tends to be more classic and traditional.
Who or what do you give credit to inspiring your creativity?
My creative adventures actually started in high school, where I saved cards, newspaper clippings and memorabilia in those Kraft albums. I recently found one in a box in the basement and it was amazing to see what was in it. I did the same thing for my children until I also began creating layouts. Once my kids were grown and older, I did not have as many opportunities to scrap so I began to use those supplies for mixed media canvases, cards and other projects.
What inspires you today?
My family has always been my inspiration. I love scrapbooking the memories that we have shared: be it school activities, dance recitals or an album filled with fun from a vacation. However, my newest inspiration is my 9 month old granddaughter. I have so many projects planned for and with her!
What is your favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product? and why? Just one please!!!
So tough to pick just one product but I love the Mix and Match Pads. In addition to wonderful pattern papers, the pads include texture pieces such as burlap and canvas. You have everything you need in one pad for a complete project!
We asked Jean to choose her favorite project she has created using CCB Products.
Why is it your favorite project?
I made this keepsake box for my granddaughter. After each visit with her, I write her a letter. I talk about what we did, what she is eating, toys she plays with and my hopes for her. Once she is older, I will give this to her.
I am the happiest doing…
Scrapping and creating. I enjoy experimenting and learning new techniques as my style continues to evolve and change.
My favorite place to be creative…
My art room where I can make a big mess!
Tell us one cool detail about your studio or craft space…
My storage table is actually made from my children’s crib. I had wanted to save it for our grandchildren but was afraid it was not up to safety standards. So we repurposed it and it now holds my supplies!
Tell us one thing fun about you we might not know…
I have a twin sister. She got the art and science gene while I got math and science. For most of my life, I fought against anything having to do with art. A few years ago, after my job wads eliminated and I had some free time, I took an introduction to painting class. This led me to creating my first canvas and a new connection to my sister. Now we talk about and share supplies!
Share with us anything about your creative life that you feel would inspire others…
I am a prime example that it is never too late to try something new! To break out of your comfort zone! Just do it.
