Today, we get to know Sheila Rumney.
Where do you reside?
I live in Smithville, a small town, just north Kansas City, MO. I am blessed to be married to my husband and mother to two adult children.
Describe your design style…
My design style has changed over the years, from shabby vintage to more of eclectic vintage. Combining old vintage papers, buttons and lace with new elements to create one of a kind artwork. Mixing the old with the new.
Who or what do you give credit to inspiring your creativity?
My grandma and mom inspired my creativity from a very young age. I remember sitting on the floor by my grandma’s rocking chair learning how to crochet. As I grew up, I enjoyed being in my mom’s sewing room where she lovingly stitched together clothes for her girls. As an adult, I still enjoy watching my mom create beautiful hand sewn quilts. I started my crafty adventures with fabrics and textiles but have branched out into scrapbooking, art journaling and mixed media.
What inspires you today?
I am inspired by gorgeous color combinations, yummy textures and layers. Whether that is beautiful vintage papers, fabrics or photography, I draw inspiration from all around me.
What is your favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product? and why? Just one please!!!
It’s hard to pick just one as there are so many CCB products I love. But recently, I am really loving the High Impact Paint – especially in white. The thickness makes it easy to add white accents to any project in one coat.
We asked Sheila to choose her favorite project she has created using CCB Products.
Why is it your favorite project?
These are a few of my favorite projects, because they combine my love of old vintage elements, lots of layers and textures.
Do you teach and if so tell us a bit about what you teach, where you go and some of your favorite places?
I have been blessed to be able to teach scrapbooking, photography, card making, phone photography, mixed media, art journaling and soldering at stores locally in the Kansas City area. Most recently at Vintage in KC and Heart Sisters Scrapbooking Events. I currently working on my first online workshop to be released soon. I enjoy showing my students that they can use my example as a bouncing off point to create their own unique artwork.
I am the happiest doing…
I am happiest in my creative studio, experimenting and creating soulful artwork.
My favorite place to be creative…
My studio is my favorite place to be creative. It is the place where vintage goodies, paints, mists, gorgeous papers and embellishments are at my fingertips.
Tell us one cool detail about your studio or craft space…
My most recent addition to this space was my abstract artwork that I created recently at an artist retreat. It is a special reminder to me to jump outside my comfort zone.
Tell us one thing fun about you we might not know…
I enjoy shopping at antique stores to find treasures to add to my artwork and home. Vintage creamy buttons, old hymns, lace, Flow Blue, Ironstone and old vintage photos are some of my favorites to bring home.
Share with us anything about your creative life that you feel would inspire others…
Once I started to create artwork that honored the past by reflecting the present, I began to find my inner creative voice. I hope by sharing with others my artwork and teaching creative workshops, that it inspires others to create their own unique artwork.
