It’s time for another post in our 2017 Canvas Corp Crew Interviews. We are extremely privileged to be able to work with a group of over a 100 of amazing designers from around the world. They have all come together to create, share ideas, support each other, let us know what we can do better and remind us of what we are doing well. Our Crew members contribute projects to our blog, design with our products on their blogs, create models for our trade shows, packaging and other fun little projects. We love to hear what they have to say, to be inspired by their work and to learn new things everyday.
Today, we get to know Cristin Stevenson.
Where do you reside?
Saint Joseph, Missouri, United States
Describe your design style…
My design style is based on many layers of mixed media. I work with any and all art supplies I can get my hands on. I love drips, splatters and grungy looks.
Who or what do you give credit to inspiring your creativity?
My great grandma was the first to inspire my creativity as a child. I’ve been really lucky to have a supportive family growing up, and now as an adult… a supportive husband and friends as well.
What inspires you most today?
I have many artist friends who inspire me. I also find inspiration from looking back at older paintings and art journals and seeing how far I have come on my creative journey.
What is your favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product? and why? Just one please!!!!
My favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product would have to be Glimmer Mists. I love how versatile they are and how manu surfaces they work with. My favorite thing is working with them like watercolors!
We have asked Cristin to share with us her favourite project for the CCB Crew.
Why is it your favorite?
This is my favorite because I am a coffee addict! (Plus I love that color of blue!)
Do you teach and if so tell us a bit about what you teach, where you go and some of your favorite places?
I teach online! Most recently, I’ve taught in collaborative courses… One Badass Art Journal 2016 & 2017, Pull Pen Paint and I teach every month on my Pateron.
Can you finish for us those sentences:
I am the happiest doing…
I am definitely happiest when I am painting or making music.
My favorite place to be creative…
I have an art studio and it is wonderful however my favorite place to go is out into nature… at a park or conservation area. I live in Missouri though, so the weather doesn’t always participate.
Tell us one cool detail about your studio or craft space…
I’m in the process of redecorating and moving things around in my studio. I have big plans! Probably my favorite thing about it right now is having a huge corner desk with plenty of room for me to spread out and work and also have all my recording equipment not in my way!
Tell us one thing fun about you we might not know…
I am a guitarist and a bassist. Currently, I am in a band as well. When I was a teenager, I competed for top virtuoso on guitar… And I won!
Share with us anything about your creative life that you feel would inspire others…
I think the thief of joy when it comes to creativity is comparing your art to what others make. I do not do that! Instead, I only compare to my past work to see how far I have come. I have many friends who are artists as well, and have discovered that art is not about competition but rather collaboration. We are all in this together.
I am a mixed media crafter with passion for layers and textures. Architextures are my new love and I can feel the relationship going from strength to strength in the foreseeable future. I have worked with CCB since January 2017 and it felt like home straight away. The team is amazing and the crafting products are even better, which makes it perfect combination and an amazing place to be.
