DIY Filled Easter Egg Cartons and Chicken Wire Frame

Pastel colors like Peeps yellow and pink, chalky aqua, Robins egg, and fresh cream are all the soothing colors that come with the awakening of Spring and the celebration of Easter Day. Not to mention fluffy bunnies and baby chicks which make their appearance to farms, marketplaces and your own backyard. This time of year also yields an abundance of sweet candies and yummy eggs. Its the season of food color and dyes that jazz up our farm fresh delights.
Colorful egg hunts are fun traditions on Easter morning, this is when we hide our dyed eggs for children to find with the reward of candy and prizes. Afterwards its time to set the table and prepare for guests to arrive and rejoice in the celebrations of the day. Since we live in an age of festive party displays, creating the right holiday theme in your home can be a challenge. But if you plan ahead with a list this will be a piece of cake.
Alison repurposes egg cartons to create these fun Easter Centerpieces with a vintage, natural fare.  These sophisticated little gems are just perfect for Easter brunch decor, buffet decor when hosting an Easter Egg hunt or for Easter dinner place settings with the entire family.  You will brush up on your fussy cutting skills utilizing the vintage easter artwork from the Canvas Corp Spring Shower Collection.  They look like they are vintage stamps carefully cut out.  No two are alike and they can start closed with a little surprise when the jute tie is undone.
If you are creating a centerpiece or welcome table adding a cute chicken wire frames sets the tone for your holiday decor.

CCB Crew Member Alison Osborn up-cycled these small egg cartons by painting them a gorgeous shade of aqua blue, layering them with papers from the Canvas Corp Spring Showers Collection and other gorgeous supplies. This project would also be perfect for table displays and party favors.
Tucked inside each of the crates are special handmade faux eggs and would also be perfect to house your farm fresh dyed ones. You can dye your eggs with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist too – what a fun way to add color and a little sparkle to your Easter Eggs.

To make this gift container, I started with some small paper egg cartons and painted them inside and out -you can mist the paper containers with any of the Tattered Angels Mist Paints – the Glimmer Mist will give you a touch of shimmer.  For full coverae you can use an acrylic paint or Tattered Angels High Impact Paint.
Once they were dry use Printed Canvas Tile to line both the outside and inside of the carton lid. The printed fabric is great for going around the nooks and crannies of the egg carton.  To get the right shape, trace the to of the carton lid onto a piece of scrap paper and used that scrap paper as a template to cut out the canvas.

Next, cut out the “spring has sprung” tag from the Spring Sayings on Ivory paper into a flag shape and glued it to a piece of Kraft & White Mini Dot paper (cut it into a flag shape.) Line the tag with Bakers Twine.  Cut out the rabbit from the Spring Garden paper. The paper flower was made from Spring Flowers Reverse on Ivory paper. Tuck the rabbit under the ribbon and glued on the rest of the elements, adding some felt flowers and a wooden button.alison carton complete 4For the inside of the carton hot-glue the Printed Canvas Tile piece to the inside of the lid, then use a piece of Canvas Fringe to glue across the center. Next fussy cut and glued the cute rabbits from the Spring Garden Paper and added a piece of fringe canvas with some wooden buttons.alison carton complete 7For the inside containers you can add whatever you wish, use paper doilies as liners for the felt and paper flowers. Cut these out with a Sizzix Bigz Flower 3d and Flower Layers #2 Dies. If you don’t own a Sizzix, there are several floral templates online or you can use the many Burlap Flowers that Canvas Corp has to offer, then hand-painted craft paper eggs and glued on alphabet letters. To make the handmade eggs, you can decoupage tissue, paper or paint paper mache, plastic or wooden eggs.  The paper gives the eggs a very vintage look, especially with kraft or vintage color papers.  You can tint them with Glimmer Mist in tans or browns to make them look even more vintage.  You can also add rub-ons, stickers or die cut shapes onto the vintage eggs.alison carton complete 8

To create this Easter Chicken Wire Frame start with a old frame, if you can find one with lots of personality, it will look amazing when painted.  You can paint the frame with acrylic paint, spray paint or try Tattered Angels Decor & DIY Paint.  The Tattered Angels paints can all be applied inside, so if you are creating your project on a snowy or wet day you are in luck with any Tattered Angels Paint, non-toxic, low odor, no sanding, no priming and no ventilation required.  The Decor & DIY Paint is also great for Outdoor use, so consider placing this fun frame on your door  in place of an Easter Wreath, especially if there is a screen door in the way.

Materials:

Tool:  Staple Gun or small hammer and nails, paint brush, die cut machine, glue, scissors.

Step 1 – Paint your frame and let it dry

Step 2 – cut and add chicken wire (another option is to use screen material) to the back of the frame by stapling, nailing or gluing into place

Step 3 – Create the banner  – for the background spring banner use the Spring Showers Fabric Panel and cut it into triangle shapes.  If you are planning to place the frame outdoors you might want to adhere the pennants to cardboard for more stability.  Then add cardboard letters, wooden buttons and lace trimming at the top.  Add your Spring Banner to a piece of cord with the natural mini clothespins.  Clip the banner onto your DIY Chicken Wire farm.

Step 4 – create more flowers with the various Sizzix dies or your favorite flower dies and add them to the frame.  Making the flowers out of different materials such as paper, tissue, doilies, felt and fabric give them  very found look.

Step 5 – Fussy cut more of your favorite vintage Easter and Spring art from the Spring Showers papers and add them to the frame with the mini clothespins.
