Dollar Store Up Do – Mini Drawers Project

I purchased this MDF mini drawers unit from a cheap craft shop, similar to a Dollar Store but in the UK, for £1.99 which is approx $2.80. I intended to use this as a jewellery box on my night stand, to put earrings and other jewellery in. There is always that moment when you realise you have forgotten to take your jewellery off but already gotten into bed, so end up throwing earrings on to the nightstand for them to never surface again… this is where I’m hoping to make use of my mini drawers.
I am Lisa Winnard and I am here to share my upcycling project with you.

I chose some lovely 7gypsies paper with a gorgeous textured image. Then decorated the box with clock faces which I painted with the Espresso Bean Glimmer Glam to add some super sparkle. I wanted to add some extra decoration to make the drawers more feminine and add a softer edge because the texture on the papers and the clock faces were looking too masculine. So I chose some paper flowers and added a stamped butterfly which I sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and Simply Sheer Mist to add some colour and gorgeous sparkle.

Products used:
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Dragonfly, Merlot Gold

Tattered Angels Simply sheer – Spicy Mustard
Tattered Angels Baseboard – Ivory
Tattered Angels Glitter Glam Paint – Espresso Bean
7gypsies Architextures Collection – Let’s Wine A Little
Canvas Corp Waxed Cord
Acrylic paint, glue, heat tool
Texture Sand Paste, White Gesso
butterfly stamp and ink, paint brushes
greyboard shapes

After giving the drawer unit a coat of white gesso, adhere Architextures Collection Let’s Wine A Little cardstock to each side and the top of the drawers.

Attach the same cardstock to the drawer front.

Add Texture Sand Paste to the edges of the drawers.

Add TA Ivory Baseboard paint over the Texture Sand Paste and TA Espresso Bean Glimmer Glam to the front of the drawer unit.

Use TA Espresso Bean Glimmer Glam to paint the drawer knobs and wrap CC Waxed Cord around each knob.

Use the opposite side of Architextures Let’s Wine A Little and glue to the base of the inside of the drawers.

Measure and cut greyboard clock faces into pieces; add a coat of white gesso.

Paint the clock faces with acrylic paint then paint TA Espresso Bean Glitter Glam paint over the top.

Spray some paper flowers with TA Glimmer Mist Dragonfly, Glimmer Mist Merlot Gold and Simply Sheer Spicy Mustard.

Stamp an image of a butterfly and paint using the same colors you used for the flowers.
Assemble all the elements on the drawers as you like.
Your project is ready.

I’m so happy with the finished result.
The finished drawers now look nothing like the original, boring, wooden drawers I purchased.
