Fall is in the Air…..DIY Vintage Fall Banner

It is fun to see what happens when we leave one season and begin another.  It is as if the new season brings out the creativity in all of us with a fresh start.  Fall is upon us and while it may not be cool in many parts of the world, the idea of Autumn days, changing leaves, brisk mornings and pumpkins galore inspires us to change from summer colors to browns, oranges, reds, greens and golds. These colors are all we need to remind us of the Fall Season.

Crew Member Lynne Forsythe brings together her love of mixed media and passion for the Fall season together in an amazing banner that is perfect for your Fall mantel, banister or across any space in your home.  You can make the banner any size so it is the perfect fit.  The banner was created with products from the 7gypsies Gypsy Seamstress Collection and wow are we in love!  If you don’t know about this collection, check it out Gypsy Seamstress in the shop where you will find stitched banner pieces with the perfect amount of cotton batting peeking out, printed canvas banners with the most amazing vintage art, pennant banners with printed vintage fabric designs stitched right on and a beautiful collection of new papers to go right along with the collection.

Before we show you her awesome banner, we want to thank Lynne for teaching last weekend at the Collins Trade Show in Orlando where we had so much fun with classes, showing off products, offering an amazing make and take with Ken Oliver and Maya Road, and we got to spend a day with some of our very favorite customers.  Here is the class Lynne taught.

Hello Canvas Corp Fans…..Thanks BUNCHES for stopping by the blog today!! I just returned home from The Collins Show in Orlando, Florida where I had the honor of teaching a class for Canvas Corp Brands. The focus of the class was to play with as many different Canvas Corp Brand products as possible! OH THE FUN we had!

I returned home to New Hampshire to be greeted with a FABULOUS box of goodies from Canvas Corp Brands
and COOL WEATHER….FALL is in the air! Not sure I’m ready for this but I was inspired by EVERYTHING to create a new banner to hang over my front door!

Fall Banner by Lynne Forsythe

I chose:

(3) 7gypsies Vintage Banner ~ Canvas
(2) 7gypsies Gypsy Ornament ~ Crescent Moon
(1) 7gypsies ~ Gypsy Seamstress ~ Tape Measure
(have you seen this new collection???)

I began with an Image Transfer. I tore pieces of  Gypsy Seamstress ~ Tape Measure to fit the Vintage Banner ~ Canvas then applied a layer of Ranger Multi Medium to the chosen side and adhered it to the Vintage Banner. I placed a heavy book on the glued pieces and let them sit over night to dry. The next day, I began a process of spritzing with water and
rubbing off of the paper. NOTE: it’s not about the pressure as much as it is the friction to remove the paper. The words and numbers will appear backwards but it’s all good. I STILL LOVE how it looks!!

When dry, I pulled out a Crafter’s Workshop stencil and a bottle of Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam ~ Golden Goddess
then stenciled randomly on all the Banner pieces.

When dry, I ran a basting stitch through the Gypsy Ornament ~ Cresent Moon  to create a bit of a gather.

Next, I pulled out a piece of Burlap ~ Rust and VERY CAREFULLY cut a few circles to attach to the button tops.
GENTLY brush on Multi Medium since burlap likes to fall apart!

I also cut a few pieces to go with my Petaloo Burlap Sunflowers.

I pulled out a bit of vintage trim from my stash and applied it to the bottom of my Vintage Banner ~ Canvas.
I AM LOVIN’ THIS LOOK!!

I then die cut a few leaves using the Tattered Leaves Die and some YUMMIE papers I had picked up at Sam Flax ~ Orlando. I also cut some ivy from 7gypsies ~ Ordere du Jour ~ Go & Be. YES….I manhandled the leaves a bit!!

I then proceeded to put my banner together. All of my banner pieces were attached to a length of Burlap Fringe ~ Cappuccino with Ranger’s Multi Medium.

Close ups of the Vintage Banner ~ Canvas pieces.

I finished off the banner with a bit of vintage Zig Zag and some Twisted Hemp Rope Natural/White Hank which I pulled apart to create the “fringe” look!!
