We are inspired by the world around us and love to showcase new and exciting artist, designers and crafters and our guest designer series is a great way to inspire our Crew as well as each one of you to try something different, show off a new style or help you think outside of your creative box, so from time to time we like to invite crafters to be our Guest Designer/Blogger for a month to challenge us to see things in a different way and so that we may learn more about our products through the eyes of a new designer. This month we have invited Janna Werner . Janna is well known in the craft world and we love to see how she used our basic products for simple and clever crafty projects.
Where are you from?
Hello there. my name is Janna Werner, and I live in Northern Germany, together with my husband and our three dogs Monti, Luzie and Fips.
How would you describe your design style?
I´d say it is an eclectic clean and simple style. I love trying out new things and use various sources for inspiration. It is always a great idea to keep an open mind – both, in life and art.
How long have you been creating?
I started crafting in 2010 after being introduced to scrapbooking by a friend of mine.
What is your go to product right now?
I got quite addicted to hand lettering recently, and tried out a lot of different pens and brushes. Glimmer Mists and alphas are always on the top of my list, too though!
Do you have a signature touch you like to include in all your pieces?
Depth and dimension are my signature touch. I love to create a ‚hovering’ look with lots of layers. I alsp prefer light colors.
What advice would you give to someone who gets in a creative slump?
Step away from the desk, get outside. Turn off the computer and phone and go for a walk. Get inspired by nature. Lower your expectations and avoid comparing yourself to others.
What is the oddest inspiration you have used for one of your projects?
Hm, I don´t know if this is an odd inspiration, but I like to get inspired by cake picuters There are really great Instagram accounts that share pictures and videos of cakes. I love the colors and designs – they can be easily projected on a paper project. They also use interesting techniques to create the cakes.
Tell us one thing that people might not know about you.
I am hearing impaired and have Tinnitus for 22 years now. I should be wearing a hearing aid on one side, but I am too lazy and sometimes the world is just too loud. Can be really convenient if your partner snores though
How often do you create?
Depends – at least once a week, I would love to have more time for creativity. I signed up for a few creative class in my hometown. Gelli plate and painting, cant wait to get started!
Do you jot down your ideas before you do them or do you create as you go?
Absolutely the type of crafter who just goes for it.
Hello everyone, this is Janna Werner. I am excited to share a mini album today, created with Canvas Corps patterned paper, twine, mini clothespins and beautiful Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist.
The album is about our three dogs, Monti, Luzie and Fips. I like to take pictures of them when we are outside for a walk. There is one thing I don´t like about those pictures though – there is tons of green in the photos as we usually walk in a park or forrest. I am not a fan of green color and therefore don´t like these kind of photos on my layouts. To be able to use the pictures anyways, I decided to turn them into black and white photos – problem solved! There are a lot of great black and white actions for photo editing programs, by the way. Very convenient!
I cut a piece of white cardstock into half and glued the two pieces together – that is the base. I added flaps and more pages made from patterned paper. I kept the same design within the album, this makes it easier to decorate the pages.
The Glimmer Mist is a great tool to dye paper: I used a piece of watercolor paper and a glass filled with Glimmer Mist and water. I put the paper into the glass and used a heat gun to dry the mist. I repeated this a few times until the tags had the color intensity I desired.
Not only did I keep the same design within the album, I also repeated the same patterns and colors to create a nice and clean appearance.
I am not a big journaler in my albums, I rather add the text and thoughts through titels and alphas. If you like to add handwritten journaling, there would be lots of space to do so.
I hope you enjoyed my inspiration and feel inspired to get crafty.
Thanks so much for joining me today, see you around!
Janna
