Featured Blogger – Sylwia Gryczuk {TandiArt}

We are inspired by the world around us and love to showcase new and exciting artist, designers and crafters and our guest designer series is a great way to inspire our Crew as well as each one of you to try something different, show off a new style or help you think outside of your creative box, so from time to time we like to invite crafters to be our Guest Designer/Blogger for a month to challenge us to see things in a different way and so that we may learn more about our products through the eyes of a new designer. This month we have invited Sylwia Gryczuk. Mixed Media is big these days and we love that so many of our basic products are perfect for simple and clever crafty projects.

 Where are you from?

I am originally from Poland but I live and create in Ireland

How would you describe your design style?

I think I could describe my style as ‘whimsical mixed media’ as I love creating magical fairies and other creatures with wings:) I also love mixing pieces of vintage style with bright colours.

How long have you been creating?

My creative journey started in 2012 when I went for oil painting classes. That triggered me to find something arty which speaks to me as dark oil paintings weren’t fulfilling for me. I discovered mixed media techniques through online workshops and that’s how I started experimenting with different mediums and styles until I discovered how much I love fairies and happy colorful art.

What is your go to product right now?

I am obsessed with watercolors at the moment.

Do you have a signature touch you like to include in all your pieces?

 Yes! Doodly flowers and clouds.

What advice would you give to someone who gets in a creative slump?

Tidy up your creative space and spend some time painting with children. They will teach you how not to overthink.

What is the oddest inspiration you have used for one of your projects?

Hairstyle of Mummy Plum from children’s cartoon.

Tell us one thing that people might not know about you.

I hated art classes when I was a child.

How often do you create?

I am trying to do something every day.

Do you jot down your ideas before you do them or do you create as you go?

I create as I go. Playful creating is what I love

Let´s hear what Sylwia has to tell us about her work with our products:

Hello Artsy Souls!
I am so happy to share with you my special project as a guest designer:) I absolutely loved working with Canvas Corp Brands products as I always look for unique and different surfaces to paint on.  And when I received mysterious box with materials I was so happy to see denim and burlap there:) I decided to paint one of my fairies on the denim bag! Firstly I prepared the surface with gesso, then I painted with acrylics. To every paint I added special medium for fabric, which helps me to prevent the design from washing off. Then I added pieces of burlap. I absolutely adore that there is so much choice of  colours! And of course there is even my favorite agua.

I also created little mixed media piece on 6×6 Art Board which is just perfect for mixed media projects. I layered pieces of paper with pieces of burlap. On top I used raisin frame and my hand made clay heart. I hope you got inspired to take out your supplies and create! I encourage you to try different fabrics to paint on! It is so much fun!!!xx Sylwia
