Hey everyone! I am Gemma Hynes and I have a cool, butterfly canvas for you today.
Sometimes I just feel the need to create, for no other reason than I need to, and I often find these pieces turn out the best.
I spent a fun couple of hours making this very relaxed canvas using some of the beautiful butterflies from the Butterflies on Ivory cardstock and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists.
Materials used:
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Dragonfly, Dazzling Diamonds, Verdigris, English Ivy, Coffee Shop, Fully Purple
Tattered Angels High Impact Paint- Black, White
7gypsies Tall Base – Chicken Wire and Triangle Grid
7gypsies Parchment Rub-On – Inspire
Canvas Corp Cardstock – Butterflies on Ivory
Canvas Corp Stretched Canvas
Black Gems
Texture Paste, Gel Medium
Paintbrushes, scissors, paper burnisher
I started by cutting out the butterflies I wanted to use and the text from the parchment rub-on, and planned my layout on my canvas. I like to mix full images with incomplete images that hang over the edges of the canvas; once I am happy with the layout; I take a quick picture with my phone that I can refer back to later.
Once I had picked the colours I wanted to use, I sprayed a layer of ink on the canvas and while it was still wet, I sprayed a second layer to ensure the canvas was completely covered.
I then laid the Chicken Wire Architecture base over the top to use as a stencil and sprayed Coffee Shop Glimmer Mist over the top. The spray pooled and left a very soft and hazy image of the stencil on the canvas.
After everything was dry I spread a thin layer of black High Impact paint onto my craft mat. I then used the Chicken Wire Architecture base as a stamp by pressing it into the paint and then pressing it into the canvas.
For the last layer on my background I mixed a very small amount of White High Impact paint with Fully Purple Glimmer Mist, this gave me quite a wet paint so I added some texture paste to thicken it slightly. Then as I had with the black paint I spread it in a thin layer and used an Architecture base as a stamp and stamped onto the canvas.
Once dry I glued the butterflies in place with gel medium making sure to fully coat the back and front of each image. I like to really press down onto the images with my fingers when applying card to canvas to make sure they are very well stuck. Then to finish it off I added the text and a few black gems.
I hope you like my butterfly canvas.
Happy crafting!
