with The Crafter’s Workshop Stencils, Paints and Mediums.

Hi everyone, Heidi from www.makeyourlifecolourful.com here, today I’m on the Canvas Corp Brands blog with my” Friday with Friends” post. I will show you how well The Crafter’s Workshop, Tattered Angels, 7gypsies and Canvas Corp play together! You will see, it’s like a match made in heaven!

About The Crafter’s Workshop

The Crafter’s Workshop (TCW), located in Elmsford (New York), is a family-owned, independent manufacturer and distributor of gorgeous stencils, fabulous modeling pastes. They also carry a line of heavy body acrylic paints. The stencils come in a wide range of themes and patterns (in different sizes) and the modeling pastes range from Clear to Metallic! So, like with Canvas Corp Brands products, there is something for everyone’s taste!

TCW began as a small paper arts shop in 1997, selling lovely papers, fine art supplies and all sorts of delicious things. One day in 1998, they realized that the only thing missing was a great assortment of unique stencils. And Voilà! The Crafter’s Workshop stencils were born! Jaime, designer and founder of TCW, creates most of the designs along with some very talented Signature Artists. New stencil designs are released twice a year and this year TCW also added eight new Metallic modeling pastes to their existing range of modeling pastes. Today I have a 12 x 12 lay out for you and I will show you step by step how each of the elements used in the lay out is created! So, let’s get started!

Step 1:

As the base for my lay out I used the beautiful handmade Tattered Angels Pure Mistable paper (12 x 12) in “Frayed Cotton“. The feel this paper has is absolutely beautiful, the edges are a little uneven which ads to the overall look I think, and it takes water and color fabulously. I added to this already beautiful paper by applying The Crafter’s Workshop “Grecian Gold“ Metallic Modeling Paste over a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil (TCW774s) using a palette knife and setting this aside to dry. Of course you can use your heat tool to reduce the drying time but be careful, you don’t want your modeling paste to bubble. When the modeling paste was dry I added my first color to the project: I first sprayed with water and then added Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Lobster“ to the project with a brush, making the color run with more water and drying when I liked the results. When the paper was dry I also splattered with this same red glimmer mist.

Step 2:

Now I’m going to work on creating all the different loose elements that I will ad to my project. I’ll literally mix The Crafter’s Workshop products with Tattered Angels products. For this I mixed The Crafter’s Workshop “Clear Modeling Paste“ with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists in “Lobster“ and   “Caper Green“.  Caper Green is one of the most beautiful olive green, with gold mica, that I have seen so far. I created my own colored modeling pastes! To create the roses I wanted for my project I applied my own handmade red modeling paste over part of a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil (TCW779s), Then I added in a little of The Crafter’s Workshop “Champagne Gold“ Metallic Modeling Paste. Making for a more lively, less flat, flower. I set it aside to dry. For the leaves I did the same with the green handmade modeling paste.  I added this to another The Crafter’s Workshop stencil (TCW740s). Make sure that you don’t ad to much of the Glimmer Mist.It should still be a paste, not a paint! When the modeling paste is dry you can fussy cut all the flowers and leaves. Now, they are ready to add to the project.

Step 3:

Next I choose an image for my focal point (I searched for something that had an air of peace and quiet over it: this particular image is from Syta van Gelderen (a Dutch company), but you can use any image you like). Then I created several mats for this image, each a little larger then the one before, for this I used Canvas Corp “Tan & Ivory French Script“ paper and Canvas Corp “E-Flute Kraft“. Each mat was distressed with a distressing tool (but you can also use your scissors).

Step 4:

Now I’m working on some fun additional elements for my project. To keep the roses theme going I applied VersaMark over the previously used TCW stencil as before, onto several Canvas Corp “White tags“ in different sizes. I clear heat embossed afterwards. The embossed part will resist the color that I will ad. Then I sprayed some of the Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in “Caper Green“. I dried the tags with my heat tool.

Step 5:

I decided to ad some additional leaves to my project. For this I applied the “Grecian Gold“ Metallic Modeling Paste over the previously used TCW stencil, onto a few Canvas Corp “Chalkstock Tags“. Then I let them dry. By repeating the same colors and shapes in different forms you can create more unity for your project.

Step 6:

While the other elements are ready or still drying I will work on my title. For this I searched for fun words to create a sentiment that meant something for me. I wanted it to say something about enjoying/being in the moment. Not always rushing to the next thing you “have“ to do. I looked for words on the 7gypsies American Vintage “Across USA“ paper. I cut the words out and glued them on some of the same “Tan & Ivory French Script“ paper that I used before. I cut around the words, leaving a border and then distressed the edges of the Tan & Ivory paper in the same way as I did before with the focal image layers.

Step 7:

Now that all my elements are ready I can put my lay out together. I first adhered the focal point onto it’s layers using liquid glue and one millimetre thick foam tape. To this base I’m adhering all the other elements that I created using mostly liquid glue. I edged the white tags a little using Memento  “Espresso Truffle“ ink with a foam applicator tool. When I was happy with the way this looked, I adhered these combined elements to my 12 x 12 lay out. I used one millimetre thick foam tape and liquid glue. Then I adhered my title to the project also using one millimetre thick foam tape. And to finish this fun project I stamped in several places using a Prima Marketing stamp (#960841) and Versafine “Onyx Black“ ink. I also edged the complete lay out with some of the same Espresso Truffle ink.

That’s it for today’s project. I love combining The Crafter’s Workshop products with Tattered Angels, Canvas Corp and 7gypsies products. This won’t be the last time you will see them in my projects!
