GOOD FOR THE CREATIVE SOUL CHALENGE - Older than You

We love to do exchanges, support our team and do fun things that keep us creating. In 2018 we want to push our dear Creative Crew into new creative adventures. We want them to push their limits, try new things and evolve their creativity. We decided to create a serie of out of the box challenges that we call “Good for the Creative Soul”. We have figured out 1 special challenge each month.

In June we challenged the Crew to use a picture older than themself in their project and tell the story if they know the person. They could use any technique/material they wanted but it must be 75% CCB products.

Today we share the beautiful work from a few of our Creative Crew Members.

I really enjoyed putting this project together because it’s just my style – not only is the picture older than me, but the kitchen slicer is, too! The photo is of the Layton family, circa 1870s – great, great ancestors on my mother’s side. I mounted that on a scrap of CCB fluted black paper spritzed with Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist. And since it’s vintage style, the Antiques & Old Stuff sentiment from packaging was perfect! The darker wood parts of the slicer are colored with Old Bronze Color Wash for a rich look and contrast to the lighter wood. I wanted to make it look somewhat like an old shelf so I displayed some Architextures Bottles and Old Can on a burlap scrap. The Build rub-ons provided the sentiment and screw for decoration. I tied everything together with a rusty bell, wire, and mesh!

I used a picture of my mom when she was a baby. She’s She’s a fighter, and tough after battling cancer of some kind for the past 18 years.(Breast, Non-Hodkins lymphoma, and Ovarian(twice). She was hospitalized (in May) due to weakness and dehydration among other things due to the last 2 rounds of Chemo treatment for 2nd bout Ovarian cancer. She is doing better and getting stronger everyday with rehab.

I love this photo of my Mom. It is one of the best photos I have of her. She was about 17 and away from home for the first time so she had this photo taken and sent to her Mom. It’s the only photo I have from Mom’s teenage years and I often wonder what she was thinking about.

I have had an old OXO tin for years that belonged to my Grandma which contains very old family photos. Inside the tin was this photo of my Grandparents wedding from 7th September 1936. What you can’t see from the photo is that the wedding dressing is pink. I still have the sash and lily of the valley tiara that my grandma wore on the day and the pearls she is wearing I wore when I got married.

I sometimes enjoy creating layouts with photos of movie stars, and decided I wanted to dedicate an album to them. I found this old photo of Clara Bow (a silent film star from the ’20s and ’30s) and loved how it looked on the wings! I added some stencilling and misting and a few random goodies for a feminine steampunk effect.

Theme Older than U instantly made me do this project. It’s been 3 years since my dad left this mortal world because of Cancer. Yes… The man in the photo is my Dad. He was in advertising field and now you can understand where I got my Creative and painting skills from. A man of few words, he spoke very little to people but those few words would make a great impact on one’s life. He was a very organised person. Nothing ever surpassed his vision. Even if the TV remote’s position changed, he would find out. Lol!! He was always right on the dot. Sharp when the clock strikes 9, he would leave for the office on his bicycle and wave a bye to me with a flying kiss at the street turning. And when the Clock strikes 6 in the evening he’d be home. Even today I wonder how he managed it. He loved old tamil movie songs and loved to take pictures whenever he was on tour. So here’s my take on the challenge…This photo is just one year older than me, was taken in 1976 in his office. Can you see how neat his work space is. I have used variety of chipboards and MDF cutouts that best depicts my dad’s interests. I chose the title as My Daddy Strongest because when I was young, there used to be a slogan from Horlicks brand “My Daddy Strongest”. I used to call him that. These are some sweet little memories which I will treasure forever.

Older than U challenge inspired me to create a layout with a picture of me and my Dad.
For the background I used 5 different colors of glimmer mist and applied the “kissing/packaging” technique. I also used 2 different patterned papers for the background.
I fussy cut the turquoise and white damask paper to make my own embellishments and mixed them with stamps and black ink. The flowers and leaves (freebies) were also fussy cut and glued together with the old camera and pen from Mix & Match Pad Studio.

I have designed the scrap Layout using most of CCB products. I have used thick handmade water color paper, Glimmer mist- Yellow, Shimmer,Moss Green, CC Burlap Strips, CCB Vintage postcard for layers. The Lady in the pic is my mom and this was shot when I was 8mnths old!!! Shes my inspiration and Art is something which I have been blessed…..it comes to me from her.
