We start 2016 like many, with a set of resolutions, a hope to spend more time doing what we love and the hope to have a more grateful heart for all around us. Patter shares with us a beautiful gift from the heart that is a true reminder of how precious life is and also how creating can be such an important part of the healing process.
My daughter will have open heart surgery in February 2016. She had her first heart surgery when she was one. She is now 21 and is fully aware of what all of this means. When she was a baby, she of course did not realize. She is now getting scared, and I created this journal for her to write out her fears, her concerns, or whatever else she may be thinking. I pray it helps her in some small way as she walks this difficult road.

Tattered Angels Tangle Pack: Love
Stamp Ink: Tim Holtz bundled sage and black soot
Stamp: 7Gypsies Distressed Words
Flowers: Petaloo Wild Blossoms and Mini Blossoms fuschia, Petaloo Petites teastained greens
Gesso: Liquitex gesso, Golden black gesso
Chipboard: Blue Fern Studios grid pieces
Paper: Canvas Corp Black and White Damask Reverse
Stamp: 7Gypsies Distressed Words
Flowers: Petaloo Wild Blossoms and Mini Blossoms fuschia, Petaloo Petites teastained greens
Gesso: Liquitex gesso, Golden black gesso
Chipboard: Blue Fern Studios grid pieces
Paper: Canvas Corp Black and White Damask Reverse
Tools Used: Moleskine or similar journal, foam brush (or your favorite brush), sewing machine, brayer
Step 1: Paint the Grateful Heart card from the Tangled Love Pack with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists. Mist paints act like watercolor paints when applied with a brush. Simply shake them and pour in a small cup or paint palette. Remember to blend with each dip into the paint to get all the great color and mica. The glimmer with shine above the watercolor and is simply beautiful. Zig zag stitch along the edges and set aside.
Step 2: Mix gesso, Glimmer Mist, and High Impact Paint Lime Green to create a soft color for the background of the journal.
Step 3: Paint the journal with the paint mixture with a foam brush. Then removed the lid from the Glimmer Mist to splatter on some shimmer.
Step 4: Spritz cheesecloth with your favorite Glimmer Mist color and let dry. Also apply a layer of gesso onto chipboard pieces. Let dry and then spritz with Glimmer Mist Pearl.
Step 5: Attach and layer your journal cover with a 3/4″ strip of Canvas Corp Black and White Damask Reverse paper, cheesecloth, and chipboard. You may sew down the center of the patterned paper strip if desired and using pop dots, adhere the Grateful Heart card to the cover.
Step 7: Print out an encouraging verse or quote onto white cardstock. Then stamp with 7Gypsies Distressed Words. Trim and adhere to cover.
Step 8: Add flowers and splatter with black gesso to finish.
Our thoughts are with Patter and her daughter as they embark together on a journey to fix what is broken and to use creativity for both healing and coping with those fears that stream in. This beautiful journal is the perfect place to capture those thoughts, tuck away those fears, jot bible versus and take note of the amazing wonders that happen along the journey no matter how small.

a beautiful project. It is hard to see our children go through difficult times and she is now old enough to understand so many things – it is even harder. Good luck and sending good thoughts and lots of hugs your way.

Inspiring and beautiful! My heart goes out to her and your family, as I know how hard it is to carry on normally when a family member is ill. I will pray for great results in February. Knowing that God has her by the hand, and has a plan for her helps to ease the worries. Please keep us all informed during this journey; as I for one, would be glad to “hold your hand” and offer encouragement all along the way. Hoping that God will ease her pain, and soothe her worries. Let her know that I’m praying for her and cheering her on on the sidelines!
