Gypsy Moments – Memory Box

Hello everyone, today I’m sharing with you how I altered this memory box using Gypsy Moments papers and Glimmer Mist sprays. Memories are something to be cherished. As you may have seen in my previous post I have an old OXO tin which belonged to my grandma and contains old family photos. I have hundreds of photos of my children and family events which need preserving. I also have a lot of boxes which I have kept a hold of “just in case” and as my craft stash is now outgrowing my house, I thought I should recycle them.

Here’s what I did

First of all, I roughly painted the box with gesso. I did this as the box I used was black in colour and had a coating on it. Coating it with gesso gives you a blank canvas to work on.

I allowed the gesso to dry naturally…which is unusual for me as I’m very impatient!

Once the gesso was dry, I then painted over a layer of the colour wash paint.
This paint gives great coverage and is not just suitable for applying to wood.

This paint dries in no time at all As I had used it over gesso, it made it look more pink rather than copper.

Next I covered all the sides with pieces of paper from the Gypsy Moments pack. I chose pieces in the same colour tone and cut pieces slightly smaller than needed and then distressed the edges with scissors. I then gave the edges an aged feel by blending glimmer glam paint onto them. I use make up blending sponges bought from a super market…they are cheaper than crafting ones and work just as well. These panels were attached to the box using PVA glue.

Once all the panels of the box were covered, I added a rub on the the top right corner of the box.
I added this once the paper was attached so that it had a more distressed look.

I love these rub-ons, they are so versatile and easy to use.

To add some texture to the box, I applied structure paste through a stencil.
I also applied structure paste to the corners and added artsy stones to this.

To complete the box, I misted it with the Glimmer Mist sprays and added the embellishments with hot glue as shown.
I die cut the memories die from black card and glued this to the box also.

The box is now ready to be filled with memories.

Thanks for popping by.
