Hello! I am Ava Gavloski and I have for you a hand-boundtravel journal today.
My son and girl friend will be traveling to Europe this summer and I wanted to make a Travel Journal that would withstand the rugged public transit trip throughout the Netherlands, Germany and France.
For this project Mixed Media Origins – Wings by Tattered Angels and Canvas Home Basics Canvas Sheet were my products of choice. With a slick and streamlined cover, the Journal will have to be without any bulky embellishments to make it easy to sneak into a backpack and carry around on the travels.
Materials used:
Canvas Home Basics – Canvas Sheet – Black
Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins – Wings
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Walnut Gold, Tutti Frutti, Limeade, Cardinal Red
Sizzix – Mat Board and Eileen Hall – Scoreboard Travel Journal Die
Helmar Adhesive – Fabric Glue, Elastic Cord, Buttons
Printed Maps, Cardstock
Westscott Brand Scissors
Personal paper trimmer, Exacto Knife, Cutting Pad
NOTE: Eileen Hall Fan Club Facebook page has a tutorial on how to assemble the journal.
Paint your chosen paper designs with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist.
Painting a second coat will deepen the pigment color of the flower.
Trace with paper the moths and floral vine, fussy cut and tack over pattern paper.
Spray pattern paper with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Walnut Gold. Once dry, lift off mask.
Adhere duct tape to the inside of the cover pages along the spine. Adding duct tape will allow for spine flexibility.
TIP: keep die cut cover holes clean from tape or papers.
Score a 3/8″ line along the side edge of the 12×12 paper. Start wrapping the pattern paper with the 3/8″ score on the inside of the front cover and continue to wrap the pattern paper around the front, spine and inside of the cover.
TIP: Massage his paper around the front cover as its a heavy pliable sheet of pattern paper.
Once the paper is shaped, measure out a pocket on the inside of the front cover and cut using an exacto knife cut a line to create a pocket. TIP: Adhere duct tape all around cut pocket back-side of paper to help shape and strength pocket.
Adhere spine with red line tape adhesive, keeping the 3 hole option at both top and bottom of the spine. Thread elastic cord through holes and create 3 to 4 cord signature bands. After journal is complete add a spot of Fabric glue to the top and bottom of the spine for additional adhesion strength.
Purchase signature booklet’s or create your own custom signatures for the journal.
The cover is kept sleek and smooth to allow for extensive handling during a public transit travel journey.
Looking forward to enjoying the Europe Journal with all the fun details of the adventure.
I hope to share the Journal with you this October when I can see the documented adventures.
I am confident the Journal will survive the journey.
Have a great day!
