Handmade Fall Canvas Cornucopia

With fall in full swing and Thanksgiving just around the corner, our Crew member Deb Rauch decided to create a rustic canvas cornucopia to gift to her daughter to use as a decoration during the festive season.

This vision for this project started with my daughter in law. She loves rustic style decor, and since she hasn’t been married a year yet, she and her husband need decor for every holiday/season. So with Shelby in mind, this cornucopia emerged! – says Deb.

For this project you will need:
Canvas Corp canvas fabric
Canvas Corp Sisal Rope in Light Natural
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Tattered Leather and Vintage Lace
Tattered Angels Simply Sheer in Rich Brown
7gypsies Architextures Parchment Rub-Ons
Fusible Fleece
Decorative gourds from local farm market
Sewing machine

Sketch out the pattern for the cornucopia. Then cut 2 pieces on the fold out of the canvas. Cut one piece on the fold out of the fusible fleece

Iron the fusible fleece on the wrong side of one of the canvas pieces. Mark out stitching lines that go across the cornucopia. With wrong sides together, sew the marked lines. Then fold it in half and sew together from top to bottom using 1/4″ seam allowance.

Now it’s time to give it an older look with the Glimmer Mists. I first sprayed with Tattered Leather and blotted off a little bit here and there. I then added Vintage Lace. I went back and added a fine spray of Tattered Leather until I got the color I wanted. For the raw edges, I used True Brown and applied it with a paintbrush.

I then cut out a couple of Architextures Rub-Ons to make a tag. These are soo easy to use, and you can use them on a lot of different surfaces! I chose to only use one of the images on my project, so I attached a piece of Canvas Corp’s Sisal Rope in Light Natural and attached it with a safety pin inside.

Last but not least, it was time to add the decorative gourds I picked up at my local farm market!
