Beach Frame Project

I found a simple plastic frame that I painted over first, and then I went on top of that with the Glimmer Mist paints. I also tried the technique of embossing the painting, using a heat gun. The result is fabulous.

Materials Used:
Tools Used:
– Heat gun for embossing
– Paint brush
 Shells and Starfish beachy project
Step 1
The first step is to prepare our support, which is the photo frame. For this, I decided to apply two colors of paint to give it an aged and soft appearance – Decor and DIY Paint – Mankato and Decor and DIY Paint – Sterling.
Step 1 Part 1 - DIY Paint
Tattered Angels Decor & DIY Paint is very similar to Milk Paints and Chalk Paints on the market, but actually performs better and will adhere to just about any surface.  Many of the popular furniture and diy paints require preparation, special storage or scrap off after the project is complete.  The Tattered Angels Paints do what they say they will do and you will be very pleased with the results.
Step 1 Part 2 - DIY paint
One or two coats is all you need!!!Step 1 Part 3 - Painted Frame
No Sanding, Priming or Top Coat needed!!!
Step 1 Part 4 - Painted frame
Step 2
Once the paint dries, to bring glitter and shine to my project as well as impressions of small patches, I applied Glimmer Mist – Wheat, Glimmer Mist – Atlantic, Glimmer Mist – Icicle, Glimmer Mist – Gold.
Step 2 Part 1 - Glimmer mistStep 2 Part 2 - Glimmer Mist paint
Try laying your frame or object down when misting for best results.
Step 2 Part 3 - Glimmer misted frame
Step 3
I also embossed the frame using embossing powder and a heat gun on top of the paint, and I am very satisfied with the results.
Step 3 Part 1 - Painted frame
Choose your favorite stamps and embossing powder, metallic, white, grey or black are all great choices.  Step 3 Part 2 - Diy painted frame
Step 4
Next, I started decorating my  frame with rope which reminds me of marine rope and boat and fishing nets.
Step 4 Part 1 - Cord
Add touches of natural rope as they are or mist them to tint them to any color you choose.  Step 4 Part 3- Mixed media frame
The embossed areas stand out beautifully when highlighted with the ropes and cords.Step 4 Part 4 - Beach frame
Step 5
While I let the glue dry sticking the rope to the frame, I began to alter the canvases which will be the central elements of my photo frame.
Step 5 Part 1 - DIY Decor Paint
What paint is best for canvas and burlap?  Tattered Angels Decor & DIY Paint and Tattered Angels High Impact Paints are the perfect choice.  They adhere to just about any surface and are a great choice for textured fabric.  You can stencil, letter or just paint it on.
Step 5 Part 2 - Canvas and Burlap
Add just a bit to your burlap or apply multiple coats for full coverage.  The perfect backgrounds for these mini canvas art pieces.  Step 5 Part 3 - DIY canvas and burlap
Step 6
I continued to decorate my photo frame with embellishments such as shells, flowers, starfish – anything “beachy”!
Step 6 - Beach frame
Step 7
Lastly, I attached my canvases to the frame, hooking them with rope through the backside of the frame.
Step 7 - Beachy frame
When the paint is dry, all the pieces are in place and the cords are holding things right where they need to be you are ready to display your beach work of art.  We found a few pinterest boards with DIY beach decor that might give you some ideas of setting up a beach mantelbeach book shelves or even a beach table.
If you have a beach, vacation or nautical themed project in mind, why not finish it up and submit to win a great prize.  To make sure you are up to date on all challenges and projects join us on Facebook in our creative group hosted by the Canvas Corp Brands Crew – Canvas Corp Brands Collective
