Empty bottles and jars are so easy to transform, no matter what the theme. I took a small relish jar and turned it into a serene home decor piece! Blue waters, sandy beaches, colorful shells – you can almost hear the waves and feel the breeze! Ivory paint over white acrylic makes a nice sandy backdrop. And the Island Spring glaze for the sea – beautiful! Bronze Faux Finish along with the Patina on the wood is perfect for a weathered Welcome sign, complete with a mermaid – the siren of the sea! Dried flower pieces mimic beach grasses & vegetation. Top everything off with canvas and twine for a rustic look. The addition of tulle makes me think of fisher’s nets and trawlers! Of course, no beach is complete unless there are shells! Tattered Angels mists and paints give your shells brilliant colors and shimmer galore!

I created a mixed media canvas using a quote from 7 Gypsies paper that I really think captures the relaxing feel of spending time at the beach/seaside. The blues of the sky and water and warm beige of sand almost make me feel like I’m there. I added some netting and shells for added texture and interest. The finished canvas measures 8×8 and I’ve included a variety of textures and focused on the soft, relaxing colours of the seaside. I stencilled with homemade texture paste; the upper part of the canvas was misted with two shades of turquoise glimmer mist, using a heat tool to dry between colours. The lower part of the canvas features netting and chipboard shells, as well as some small natural shells. The chippie starfish was coated with texture paste mixed with sand for a realistic effect, then the lower area was misted with two sand-coloured shades of glimmer mist (allow to dry between colours or use a heat tool to keep your colours from becoming muddy).

Beach was a part of my childhood days. It is now Summer in India and I am reminded of the Beach – Salty air, Waves, Shells, Sand Castle, fishing nets, cotton candy… the feeling of home(my house is just about 5 km from Marina Beach)… All these made me create this card, with lots of memories preserved in it. The shells are my treasures from my childhood days that I collected from the beach. I have used all 3 Canvas Corp Brand products in this card.

This is my project for the June – “To the Sea” Challenge. I have so many tropical vacations to scrapbook that this was an easy challenge for me! I used a picture from our trip to Barbados in 2013. I also just got in some of the mix and match pads and I knew they would be perfect for this project.

I live with my partner and my two children, in a small village the North of Sweden. I work as a Intensive Care Nurse (with Cardiology as speciality). My "style" is colourful and playful. I often use a lot of papers and embellishments. I try to have the photo in focus, and to reflect the feeling of the photo in the layout. I also makes cards and altered projects. If I would call my style something - well maybe Playful Punk Chic? (if i do a romantic layout, I can´t help giving it a playful twist...)
