Where do you reside?
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Describe your design style…
I think my design style is a little shabby chic with layers and bright happy colours! I love adding layered, textured elements like canvas and burlap along with Tattered Angels Mists and paints in a clean mixed media style.
Who or what do you give credit to inspiring your creativity?
Both my grandmothers, growing up, were crafty and taught me to sew, knit and crochet. My mom was always upcycling and repurposing something old into something new for my sister and myself and let us help out. So, I’ve always been excited to learn a new craft and see what fun new ideas are out there!
What inspires you most today?
I love checking out DIY projects and home decor on YouTube and I love all the awesome ideas in the papercrafting community on Facebook and Instagram. As well, the Creative Studio blog has such amazing inspiration! I’m loving creating canvas projects along with cards, tags and scrapbook layouts and always try to find a way to try a new or old technique on my project.
What is your favorite Canvas Corp Brand Product? and why? Just one please!!!
Right now, my new favourite CCB product is the 7gypsies Architextures Parchment Rub-ons!!
We asked Karla to choose her favorite project she has created using CCB Products.
Why is it your favorite project?
I love this watercolour canvas that I created for the CCB blog! I used watercolouring techniques and I love the layers and colours I used. I made it as a gift for someone and I have lots of happy feelings associated with creating it! You can read about the project in here.
Do you teach and if so tell us a bit about what you teach, where you go and some of your favorite places?
I teach my kids and let them play with my supplies! I want them to know art should be fun and they should be able to create in their own way and create what makes them happy.
I am the happiest doing…
I love colouring and sitting down with a bunch of supplies and just putting them together very organically to make something pretty!
My favorite place to be creative…
I have a craft room downstairs, but I love just grabbing supplies that excite me and spreading them out on the kitchen table. It’s sunny and bright there and I can be close to my family as well as share what I’m working on with them!
Tell us one cool detail about your studio or craft space…
My husband is always trying to figure out ways to make my crafting easier, so he hung a huge light above my craft table and just bought me a new tripod <3
Tell us one thing fun about you we might not know…
I’m a total coffee addict in the morning! My hubby makes lattes on weekends 😉 I switch to tea after lunch – usually a fruity herbal tea, and my favourite snack is plain Lays chips, lol!
Share with us anything about your creative life that you feel would inspire others…
I think you have to ‘just do’. Even if it’s just colouring an image, misting a piece of paper or organizing supplies; the more you try to actually create, the more you will accomplish and feel creative.
You can see Karla’s projects on her blog, Instagram, Facebook page and of course here, our blog.
Thank you for stopping by! Have a great day!
