Scrapbooking is definitely one of the craft forms that doesn’t seem to be losing its popularity – most probably, that’s because it’s an arty way of keeping memories alive. Whether they’re traditional and 100% paper based or more elaborate and mixed media – scrap layouts tend to be personal and filled with individual references and messages.
Jennie Thompson played with Canvas Corp Brands products to create a layout celebrating her joining our Creative Crew. As a twist, she not only used Architextures short base but also altered it so that it looked like a real old and rusty piece of metal.
altering the 7Gypsies Architextures Short Base – Gate
I wanted this 7gypsies Architextures Short Base – Gate to look like an old garden gate from a fairy tale storybook for my “Hooray for 2018” scrapbook page. I think I totally achieved that, and I am still pleasantly surprised about it!! My strongest skills are not anything having to do with paints or inks. But the Tattered Angels products made this a total success, and I couldn’t be happier with my little faux-aged, faux-oxidized verdigris “copper” gate 🙂
If I can do this, you can do it too!
Jennie used these products alter her gate:
7gypsies Architextures Short Base – Gate
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Verdigris
Tattered Angels Color Wash Paint – Copper
Dina Wakley Media by Ranger white Gesso
Ranger Mini-Mister
Pentel Water Brush Pen
sponge dauber, skinny paint brush
cardboard (paper) embossing tray
The 7gypsies Architextures Short Base – Gate comes as a plain, neutral gray vinyl just waiting to be painted and misted and spritzed and textured and whatever else you can think of.
Start by painting a thin (or thick!) coat of gesso to completely cover the entire top of the gate. Let dry for a few minutes.
Apply Color Wash next.
I poured mine into my mini-mister and spritzed it on, mostly around the edges and the middle parts – wherever I thought the gate would be “rustiest”.
Now take the Glimmer Mist and spritz away! I sprayed some over the already misted parts but not all of them.
It will pool up on some parts and then smooth out a little as it dries.
And, just for fun, here’s the tray after the project! Very copper-y and rust-y and sparkly.
Those are the effects that you can get with the mists 🙂
LayOut “Hooray for 2018”
When anything important happens in my life, I invariably think, “Ooh! I can’t wait to scrapbook this!”.
So this scrapbook layout is a fun and pretty page to lock in the memory of starting on the 2018 CCB Creative Crew 🙂
Some pieces chosen are random for design, but some pieces are purposefully symbolic, too.
I love putting in little touches that have big meaning only for me. It makes the art more personal and infuses it with a certain emotion or energy (to be new-age-y for a moment. Do you know what I mean? Do you do this or something similar, too?
Materials used:

Quick steps to make the page:

- Begin to add embellishments with glue dots, staples or dimensional foam squares.
- Add photo layer and then more embellishments.
- Stretch lace piece across bottom of page. Staple at each end. Layer flash card and then the earlier prepared iron gate using tiny foam dimensionals.
- Adhere painted gate and mirrored bird using tiny foam dimensionals.
My celebratory scrap page is finished!
Happy scrapping with CCB!
