Cathy Frailey here with a different type of Mother’s Day card! This is my first Mother’s Day without my own Mom but I wanted to pass on a unique kind of card for YOUR Mom. It’s an eye-catching design that can be beautifully embellished and personalized! A perfect Mother’s Day card.
What I used for my card:
Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze Paint – Desert Sun, Purple Passion, Plumeria
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Iridescent Silver, Woven Burlap
7gypsies Gypsy Seamstress: 12×12 Tape Measure
7gypsies Ordre Du Jour: 12×12 Seize the Day Paper
7gypsies 4×6 Printed Postcards
Architextures™ Parchment Rub-On – Pose
Canvas Corp Black & Kraft Damask Paper
Tim Holtz Paper Doll
Flower Embellishments, Various Ribbons/Trims (wide & skinny)
Distress Ink, Bone folder
Sewing machine, Ruler, Scissors
Paint brush, Hot glue gun
Mark your Seamstress paper at 3″ and 9″ on each side; score and fold along the lines. With the inside of your card facing up, fold the corners up to the center.
Next, you’re going to fold the corner together or pinch it along the score lines so that it folds down into a square in each corner. Cut around the outside edge with decorative scissors – or you can use an edge punch. Ink your edges and fold lines.
I had this cute grosgrain tape measure ribbon that I hot glued around the front boxes.
For the paper doll, use your Tattered Angels glazes to give her some color! Then cut a piece of the damask paper a little larger than the doll for a background; adhere the paper doll on top.
Next, spritz and drip the front of your postcard with the mists. Distress the edges and adhere your paper doll; add a sentiment and a flower. For the back, rub on a lovely face from the parchment, add some color to it with the glazes, and go around the edges with the Burlap mist using a brush to make a frame. Then add your personal sentiment.
For the belt that closes it, cut one full strip of the drawers from the Ordre paper. Lay it on top of your wide ribbon and cut to the same size. Also cut 2 lengths of skinny ribbon (about 9″ ea) which will be your ties at each end. Now sandwich the wide ribbon, your skinny ribbons on each end, and the paper strip on top & sew them together.
Hot glue part of your belt to the back ONLY in the middle. Then hot glue more flowers or embellishments to the front. Now fill it with your postcard and extra flowers and tie a pretty bow!
This card is so pretty and looks like a flower blooming when you open it!
You can personalize it in so many ways & fill it with various things like candy or jewelry – whatever your Mom likes!
What are you making for your Mom?
