Today is national coloring book day. We are not sure exactly what you have to to do to be a coloring book and with what you must color to qualify, but we are pretty sure if it is black and white art and we add color it counts. We have been having so much fun with the new adult coloring craze and what a fun day to get the chance to talk about it. Not only do you get a beautiful piece of art when you are done, but it helps you relax and de-stress. How cool is that?!
Coloring in general is adding color to something that does not have any color in the places you want or adding more color to something that is not colored the way you want, put in simple terms. What better place to start for anyone who is even a touch creative than with a little bit of art that needs to be colored in?
Some call it Adult Coloring, but we don’t have an age limit on who colors with us. We love little hands just as much as adult hands and all hands love to color, you just have to let down your “adult” creative guard and let the color flow.
We thought it would be fun today to share some of our favorite products that were colored by our crew.
Check out this amazing mermaid colored by Crew Member Connie Hall in honor of our Summer Challenge. She added it to the front of a book making it a perfect cover for a notebook, calendar, journal or photo album. Using your art to create something you will see everyday and make you smile takes coloring to the next level. To see more of Connie’s work, visit her blog Times to Cherish.
Our great friend Ken Oliver (and honorary Crew Member) colored in one of the Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins papers and cut it up to create the perfect little mini book. Ken’s Color Burst is another great coloring medium for your coloring addiction. Crew Member, Shannon Green, had fun coloring in these amazing flowers. So easy with a black background and who cares if you jump out of the lines a bit, who makes the rules anyway? This sheet was painted with the new Tattered Angels Shimmers paints.
Crew Member,Vicki Ross, jumped off of the paper and onto fabric to color. Coloring on canvas is easy and it looks so cool. While using pencils or markers might not be the first choice, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, High Impact and Glimmer Glaze are great choices and work well on fabric. The mists are not designed to be washable, but the High Impact and Glaze paints are permanent, so you choose the best paint for your project and just brush your color on.
Why not color your art and use it to decorate cards, tags, gift wrap and more? Crew Member Betsy Skagen of the PaperCalliope.com shows us how it is done.
Lynn Forsythe colored in her butterflies her way and they are all amazing. Adult coloring gives you the control, letting you choose the colors, the look and what you want to color, we love that and boy did Lynne make the Canvas Corp Brands Butterfly paper look so cool.
So choose your favorite art – here are a few links in the shop for adult coloring paper that we are pretty sure will get the creative juices flowing – Canvas Corp Papers, Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins, 7gypsies Canvas Banners, Canvas Corp Printed Fabric Panels and for the paint to do the coloring, our favorite choices are – Tattered Angels Mist, High Impact Paints, Glimmer Glaze and Shimmers.
So if you are into doodling, coloring or want to get started, think about using papers and products you can color and then turn into works of art, gifts or functional projects such as a notebook and relax and color and then make something cool.
Happy Creating!!
