Altering objects, turning the new into the old-looking, up-cycling and a variety of other crafty activities that nurture our gypsy souls require a variety of skills; one of the skills is achieving a realistic patina effect on our projects. There are various kits that help achieve faux looks like the Tattered Angels Naturally Aged Kits but you can also achieve the vintage look using what is in your stash already.
Our Crew member, Aga Baraniak plays with her TA Mists while altering a simple wooden box to give it a sophisticated, aged patina look.
Materials used:
wooden box
7gypsies paper Harmony: Pearls & Lace
7gypsies American Vintage: Vintage Photos
Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze Blue Oasis
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist: Maya Blue, Verdigris, Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Tattered Leather
Finnabair gesso
Ranger gloss medium and crackle paste
Viva Decor facetten lack
Renesans gilding paste
molds and modelling paste
Aga shares some tips with us too:
- To make some of the elements shiny, I used gilding paste but you can use any kind of shimmering mist or Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze
- To make the lid slightly more interesting, I used some old photos from 7gypsies – I covered them with clear crackle paste to achieve the vintage look.
