Life is insanely busy this time of year, I can attest to that–but when it comes to holiday stockings, there’s always time. Here are three DIY rustic stockings that are unique, fun and a great addition to holiday decor.
Snowflake Stocking by Lynne Forsythe
First, I washed and dried my Canvas Corp Brands Stocking. I just LOVE the new texture of my stocking not to mention the hanging threads!
Here are some EASY PEASY steps to create your own masterpiece!!
1. Diecut desired image. Place image on Canvas Corp Brands ~ Canvas Stocking, apply acrylic paint over diecut.
2. Move diecut image randomly over stocking, repeating application of acrylic paint. Dry paint.
3. Apply Tattered Angels ~ Glimmer Glam ~ Tide Pool over entire stocking base. I dabbed the stocking with a clean cloth to remove excess Glimmer Glam from acrylic paint.
4. Run a basting stitch through a length of Canvas Corp Brands ~ Canvas Fringe. Tie off end. Adhere gathered fringe to stocking brim. Adhere Canvas Corp Brands ~ Twisted Hemp Rope to gathered Fringe.
5. Attached painted diecut image with a brad through the Fringe.
6. Embellish with twigs, I used a floral “twig” with rusted jingle bells on it!!
I hope you have enjoyed my OHHH soo easy pice of home decor!! I think it will look JUST WONDERFUL on my front door!!!
Rustic Vintage Stockings by Michelle Rocco
7Gypsies makes a long vintage stocking that is to die for! It has that long, droopy feel of a stocking you see hanging from a fireplace in an old Christmas movie. I embellished the long vintage stocking with burlap, paper and metal accessories to give it a shabby-eclectic feel.
At the top I cut strips of red and avocado burlap and tied them to a rope, which I then glued to the top of the stocking.
I used vintage keys, hangers and safety pins from 7Gypsies to decorate within the burlap fringe. And of course, that iconic vintage santa in the background is from the Santa’s Journey ephemera pack.
To make this look like an apothecary filled with snow, I filled it with glitter and hung it using hemp rope.
The bottom of the stocking is my favorite. It’s a simple paper pattern from the Santa’s Journey collection that I sewed to the toe. I added a crystal embellishment to finish it off.
This stocking took a bit more time because of the ripping and sewing, but it was so worth it! I used the jester stocking in canvas that still has a unique vintage vibe. I tore papers and inked the edges of the paper before sewing them onto the stocking. The pattern doesn’t really matter on this one, I would just tear and see what you can come up with!
And finally, to the top of the stocking I added burlap layered with canvas fringe and stamped Payton’s name to the top of the stocking. I hung the sweetest embellishments from jute cord, as well.
Thank you for stopping by and I wish you all a Merry Christmas!
