September Challenge “Mata Hari”

MATA HARI was she a Spy or not? This intriguing woman of Dutch origin remains a mystery. However, THIS October it will be exactly 100 years ago she was executed. Rightfully so? Maybe we will find out after all these years. Her oriental style, costumes, elaborate jewelry… Plenty to inspire you to create something about this woman and help us celebrate her throughout September. Please join this month’s challenge!

The How to:

 Viktoriya.

“I created this altered frame about this unique woman, oriental dancer and sex icon of that time. Her secret is unknowing until now, her destiny was tragic, but her style is timeless. I used with many flowers and embellishments as on Mata Hari’s costumes and her words in title: The dance is a poem of which each movement is a word!”

Connie Hall tell us the story behind her project:

“Mixed Media Canvas featuring the beautiful Margaretha Geertruida A.K.A Mata Hari. There are so many images of her exotic dancing costumes and tragic story being accused and found guilty of being a spy. I wanted to create something beautiful in honour of this beautiful woman.”

Products from Canvas Corp Brands: Canvas Corp  12 x 12 Canvas, 7gypsies Lace Trimmings, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Tutti Frutti, Tattered Angels Baseboard Mist – Baby Girl Pink, Canvas scraps to create rolled roses and leaves.

This is the thoughts from Linda:

“When I read about the challenge to use Mata Hari for inspiration I knew I wanted to make a junk journal featuring her images. After searching online I found some free domain images I could use and printed those on cardstock. Since Mata Hari was a colorful person I thought that this journal needed to be filled with all kinds of colors.”

The last project come from Sheri who share her Mata Hari project in a video

I live with my partner and my two children, in a small village the North of Sweden. I work as a Intensive Care Nurse (with Cardiology as speciality).

My “style” is colourful and playful. I often use a lot of papers and embellishments. I try to have the photo in focus, and to reflect the feeling of the photo in the layout. I also makes cards and altered projects. If I would call my style something – well maybe Playful Punk Chic? (if i do a romantic layout, I can´t help giving it a playful twist…)
