Have you ever thought to paint on glass? It is truly a fun surface to play with. It has an illusion of transparency and various Tattered Angels paints react in amazing way with glass. Our Stained Glass paint is formulated to have a see through effect when painted on the surface, but it still retains the color you are applying. Here is an amazing example of how you can take an image and paint it onto glass. Viktoriya Porechnaya \ inspires us to take our ideas and techniques to a new level. She mounts her artwork on a frame for a stunning home decor piece, perfect for a baby room with those soft colors and the cute little chameleon.
Using a piece of glass as your base for art is so much fun, you then can frame it and use it for home decor. This process take a little time, mostly drying time as you let the layers dry before adding the next color so they do not bleed or blend together.
Materials Used:
Tools Used: Brushes; Stencil
Step 1 – De-grease glass using window cleaner and wipe it carefully.
Step 2- Search for a simple black and white piece of art that is perfect for tracing and then coloring. This chameleon is just the type of print you want to choose, lots of great lines and plenty of space to color in. Print your image and place it under the glass to use as a template. Using the contour window paint pen, trace your image onto the glass. Let it dry 1-2 hours so it will not blend with the paint applied in next step.
Step 3 – Use a small tip brush to carefully paint the Tattered Angels Stained Glass paint in the empty areas between the contour paint outline. Fill in the gaps to color in your image. Let it dry for a few hours to fully set the paint. Stained Glass tints the glass but does not cover it completely, so it allows the glass to be transparent with beautiful color.
Step 4- When it dries you can add some patterns on the back side of glass by using a stencil and gold acrylic paint with a sponge dabbing technique.
Step 5- Then add in some glitter touches with some gems, liquid glitter glue, and some Glimmer Glaze from Tattered Angels in complementary colors.
When it is done you have a magnificent work of art on glass perfect as a home decor piece for a baby room, living room, or you can give it as a gift to a special person. Leave it as is on a stand or frame your glass, but leave the back exposed if possible to let the light shine through.
Your images are all your own, so you can make any design you wish, just change out your printed image and paint colors to make a stunning personalized art piece on glass. If you are working with kids, choose plexi-glass to ensure that the glass won’t break or be too sharp and you can tape off the edges. This is a great way to build drawing, tracing and coloring skills.
Let the kids draw the background or find art that they love and help them by tracing it onto the glass and outline it so they can do the coloring. Such a great way to build so many skills and what great gifts for teachers, mom’s, dad’s, grandparents and more.
