Two Art Journal Pages – Travel

Masculine art journal page with lots of texture Crew Member Heidi Jakobs

Who doesn’t love traveling? Yes, that’s right, everybody loves to have some time off and travel, visit the beach, do fun things with friends!

Hi, it’s Heidi from www.makeyourlifecolourful.com here, with two fun art journal pages dedicated to all the things we love to do in general but particularly traveling!

Art Journal Page 1

For this project, I’m working in my 7gypsies Architextures “Vintage Pink“ Mix and Match Book and I choose a page with a ledger background. The fun thing about this Mix and Match Book is that you can take pages out while you’re working on it and you can put it back in when you’re finished. So, no stress about ruining a previous page with adding paints or inks to your present project. I love this Mix and Match Book!

Step 1:

I started my page by pencilling in the title, first with a graphite pencil and when I liked what I had I went over the lines with a black Faber Castell PITT Artist Pen (s). I used a calligraphy style that I taught myself as a child.

Then I applied some The Crafter’s Workshop “Platinum“ Metallic Modeling Paste over a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil called “Number Scramble“ (TCW764s) using a palette knife. Then I set the page aside to dry.

When the modeling paste was dry I splattered with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color  “Navy Blue“ using a brush and let that also dry.

Step 2:

Next I’m working on creating the other elements for my project: first I picked my focal point which is one of the images from the 7gypsies American Vintage “Vintage Photos“ pack that I cut to a size that I liked and I distressed the edges a little with an edge distresser (but you can also use your scissors). I also picked one of the images from the 7gypsies American Vintage “Mini Ephemera“ pack. This image I matted on some Canvas Corp paper called “Rust & Ivory Tile“ using liquid glue, then I distressed the edges a little with an edge distresser and I applied some ink on the edges using Archival Ink in the color “Sepia“ with a foam applicator tool.

I also used a piece of one of the faux finished patterns from the 7gypsies Junque Pack called “Garage“. This piece I cut to a size that I liked, then adhered that with it’s own sticky back on regular printer paper (so the color would stay nice and bright) and cut that out. I also tore a piece of paper from the same “Rust & Ivory Tile“ paper that I used before for another fun added element.

For the background behind the atlas/route map image I choose a piece of the 7gypsies American Vintage paper collection called “State Plates“ and I cut that to a size that I liked. Here I also added a small piece of the same “Rust & Ivory Tile“ paper for a fun extra element.

Now I’m ready to put my page together: I adhered all the elements to my page using liquid glue and one millimetre thick foam tape. I edged the page and some of the added elements with Archival Ink in the colors “Coffee“ and “Jet Black“ and as my finishing touch I adhered some of the smaller stickers from the “Garage“ Junque Pack to my project!

And that’s it for today’s art journal page!

For this page, I’m also working in my 7gypsies Architextures “Vintage Pink“ Mix and Match Book and I choose a page with a background that looks like the back of a vintage postcard. The fun thing about this Mix and Match Book is that you can take pages out while you’re working on it and you can put it back in when you’re finished. And even though the pages are not made out of watercolor paper they can handle a lot of water, so that’s always a plus!

Step 1:

I started my page by looking for a fun quote on line. The one that I choose I pencilled in on the page, first with a graphite pencil and when I was happy I went over the lines with a black Faber Castell PITT Artist Pen (s). I used a calligraphy style that I taught myself as a child.

Next I applied some The Crafter’s Workshop “Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste“ over a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil called “Alphabetica“ using a palette knife and set that aside to dry.

When the modeling paste was dry I added my first color to the project. For this I choose Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Barn Red“. I applied some of the mist to the project with a brush (you don’t need much) and then added water from a spray bottle, this made the color run and when I liked the result I dried the page with my heat tool. This I repeated on both corners of the page.

Next I created splatters with a brush and some of the Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in the color “Nougat“. This colour is similar to the art journal page itself and it creates a nice vintage effect.

Step 2:

As my focal points I choose some of the pieces from the 7gypsies American Vintage line: I choose two images from the “Vintage Photos“ package and two images from the “Mini Ephemera“ package. I cut the images to a size that I liked and I matted the “US 101 North“ image on the back of some 7gypsies Architectures 12×12 paper called “Upper & Lower“ to create a lighter edge and I distressed that piece for a more weathered look. Then I tore some pieces from this same “Upper & Lower“ paper to ad some interesting details in the back of my page.

Now I’m ready to put my page together. I adhered the prepared elements to the page in a way that I liked using liquid glue. Then I edged around the page and over some of the modeling paste using first Archival Ink in the color “Coffee“ and then a little of the Archival Ink in the “Jet Black“ color.

And as my final finishing touch I added a Scrap-Unlimited brass arrow to the project using gel medium and set the page aside to dry.
